About the Role

The Hardware Implementation Technician is responsible for planning, deploying, and supporting POS hardware and payment systems in production environments. This role requires strong technical judgment across hardware, networking, and payments, along with the ability to coordinate implementation activities across internal teams and customer stakeholders.

You will own implementations from preparation through deployment and stabilization, ensuring systems are installed correctly, operate reliably, and meet security and compliance expectations.

What You’ll Do

  • Own hardware implementation and deployment activities for POS and payment systems
  • Plan and execute implementation tasks, coordinating timelines, dependencies, and resources
  • Configure, stage, test, and deploy POS hardware in customer environments
  • Lead EMV and payment device implementations, including gateway coordination and device configuration
  • Serve as a technical point of contact between Sales, Ordering, Operations, customers, and third-party vendors
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues involving hardware, payments, networking, and system integrations
  • Support accurate hardware selection and fulfillment aligned with technical and regulatory requirements
  • Create and maintain implementation documentation, deployment plans, and technical diagrams
  • Train customers and internal staff on hardware usage, system workflows, and security best practices
  • Participate in system upgrades, go-lives, and controlled production changes
  • Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and occasional onsite travel (typically under 25%)

Networking, TCP/IP & Troubleshooting Expertise

  • Strong practical understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts, including IP addressing, subnets, gateways, DNS, and DHCP
  • Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity issues affecting POS systems, payment devices, and peripherals
  • Experience diagnosing issues related to firewall rules, port access, VLAN segmentation, and NAT
  • Ability to work with customer IT teams to validate network readiness and resolve deployment blockers
  • Familiarity with network tools and techniques such as ping, traceroute, port testing, and packet flow analysis
  • Experience supporting wired and wireless networks, including access point placement and signal reliability
  • Understanding of secure network segmentation and device isolation for payment and regulated environments

  • Receipt printers, barcode scanners, cash drawers
  • Label printers (Epson, Zebra, Cognitive)
  • Barcode readers (Datalogic, Honeywell) and symbology configuration
  • Deli scales, scanner scales, and kitchen display systems (KDS)

Payment & EMV Devices

  • Verifone, Ingenico, Castles, Dejavoo
  • EMV device configuration, testing, and deployment
  • Coordination with acquiring VARs and payment gateways

Payment Gateways & Integrations

  • Datacap
  • eConduit
  • Paygistix / Fortis
  • Adyen

Project & Implementation Management Skills

  • Ability to plan and manage technical implementation tasks from intake through completion
  • Experience coordinating schedules, dependencies, and deliverables across internal teams and customers
  • Comfortable managing multiple concurrent implementations at different stages
  • Ability to identify risks, communicate issues early, and adjust plans to keep projects moving
  • Strong documentation habits to support repeatable deployments and knowledge transfer
  • Ability to lead technical portions of implementations without formal project management authority

Regulated & High-Security Environment Experience (Strongly Preferred)

  • Experience working in healthcare, higher education, gaming, or similarly regulated environments
  • Familiarity with PCI DSS requirements and EMV standards
  • Understanding of secure payment architecture and encryption best practices
  • Ability to follow and enforce security protocols, documentation standards, and change controls
  • Comfort operating in environments with strict audit, access, and uptime requirements

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience implementing POS hardware and payment solutions
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, networking, and system integrations
  • Proven ability to work independently and own technical outcomes
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs and travel occasionally for onsite work
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
