Plant Controller
A client of ours is looking for a Plant Controller for a contract role to support the financial operations of a manufacturing facility. This position will be responsible for overseeing accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and operational financial analysis. The ideal candidate will bring strong manufacturing finance experience and provide strategic guidance to leadership through accurate reporting and actionable insights.
Responsibilities of Plant Controller
- Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and operational reports utilizing consolidation and reporting software.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities for the plant.
- Perform detailed variance analysis on manufacturing, labor, material, and overhead costs, and partner with operations to identify corrective actions.
- Maintain and improve standard costing processes, inventory valuation, and cost accounting procedures.
- Support general accounting functions including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet management.
- Oversee cash management activities, including cash forecasting, payments, reconciliations, and working capital analysis.
- Monitor inventory controls, physical inventories, and cost accuracy across manufacturing operations.
- Evaluate capital expenditures, fixed asset activity, and return-on-investment analyses.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, company policies, and audit requirements.
- Partner with plant leadership to drive financial performance, profitability improvements, and operational efficiencies.
- Assist with tax filings, external audits, and other statutory reporting requirements as needed.
Skills/Qualifications of Plant Controller
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 5+ years of accounting or finance experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong background in cost accounting, standard costing, inventory accounting, and inventory valuation.
- Experience managing financial close and reporting through consolidation software, ERP systems, or financial reporting platforms.
- Proven expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and variance analysis.
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles and GAAP.
- Experience with cash management, reconciliations, working capital management, and financial controls.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong financial reporting and data analysis capabilities.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, or plant operations.
- Ability to identify operational improvement opportunities through financial analysis and performance reporting.
- Experience with capital expenditure analysis, fixed asset accounting, and ROI evaluations.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with operations, production, and leadership teams.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience supporting multi-site operations or complex reporting structures is a plus.
- CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred
