Job Description
MATRIX is looking for a Project Controls Specialist to support long-range planning of nuclear projects. Develop preliminary and refined estimates to support budgeting and funding authorization. Shapes loosely defined project ideas into structured estimates for governance approval.
Hours: Standard daytime hours (e.g., 8–5). Occasional overtime may be required depending on workload.
Duration: One year
Location: Minneapolis, MN
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBLITIES
- Perform primary project controls assignments to support Project Managers.
- Accountable for generating reports, assisting with control activities, responding to data requests and developing/maintaining/supporting project schedules and/or detailed cost tracking.
- Coordinates with Project Managers to obtain weekly and monthly cost and schedule updates.
- Assist the Project Managers in providing accurate project forecasting and review of expenditures
- Reviews project backlogs in Oracle Unifier and spreadsheets
- Collaborates with initiators and asset owners, references historical data, and develops estimates
- Heavy interfacing with internal stakeholders
- Perform primarily office and non-manual work.
- Perform work related to the management or general business operations of MATRIX or its customers/clients, while exercising discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance to MATRIX and its customers/clients.
- Interface with managers or head of a unit/department requiring the integration of multiple functional organizations.
- Use “lessons learned” to improve quality of MATRIX’s future projects; make recommendations to MATRIX as to the implementations of future policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
- Project management and estimating experience (preferably nuclear).
- Familiarity with Oracle Unifier, understanding project finance and controls.
- Experience with work order planning and operations, construction estimating background acceptable.
- Must have advanced MS Excel skills. Experience with Primavera P6, SAP Work and Asset Management required depending on additional job details.
- The ability to communicate well both verbally and written as a business necessity to ensure the safe and efficient operations of business. Clear, concise and effective fluency in the English language is essential.
PREFERRED:
- 8–10 years of experience in project estimating, preferably in nuclear or utility environments. No degree required.
- Familiarity with data analytics reporting tools preferred.
- PMP or nuclear-specific certifications are a plus.
