Associate Attorney - Plaintiff's Side Civil Litigation
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our plaintiff's side civil litigation team. The ideal candidate will handle a full docket of civil matters, develop case strategy, draft pleadings and motions, manage discovery, take and defend depositions, and represent clients in court and settlement negotiations. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex litigation, gain trial experience, and contribute to a collaborative practice focused on achieving excellent outcomes for plaintiffs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of plaintiff's civil litigation matters from intake through resolution.
- Draft, review, and file complaints, answers, motions, briefs, and other court documents with precision and adherence to procedural rules.
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support dispositive motions, motions in limine, and trial preparation.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute discovery strategies, including drafting interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission, and responding to discovery from opposing counsel.
- Prepare for and take depositions of fact witnesses, expert witnesses, and corporate representatives; defend client and third-party depositions as needed.
- Participate in settlement negotiations, mediations, and other alternative dispute resolution processes to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Prepare witnesses and exhibits for trial; assist with trial strategy, motions in limine, jury instructions, and courtroom presentation.
- Appear in state and federal court for hearings, case management conferences, pretrial conferences, and trial proceedings.
- Work closely with senior attorneys and staff, supervise paralegals and junior associates when applicable, and collaborate on case strategy and client communications.
- Maintain organized case files and meet deadlines, docketing requirements, and billing expectations while communicating status updates to clients and team members.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active admission to the WSBA.
- 2+ years of civil litigation experience preferred; plaintiff's side experience strongly preferred.
- Proven experience drafting motions and briefs, conducting complex legal research, and managing discovery.
- Demonstrated experience with depositions and courtroom appearances; prior trial experience is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of civil procedure, rules of evidence, and case management practices in state and federal courts.
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, with attention to detail and the ability to present complex legal issues clearly and persuasively.
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Professionalism, sound judgment, integrity, and a client-focused approach to advocacy.
- Familiarity with e-discovery tools, case management software, and legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis) is a plus.
- Willingness to travel to courts, client meetings, and depositions as required.
