Position Summary
The Senior Career Pathways Coach supports students across multiple campuses in exploring career pathways, earning industry credentials and college credit, and accessing work-based learning opportunities. Working closely with educators, school leaders, and employers, the Coach strengthens education-to-workforce learning pathways, prepares students for success in college and the workforce.

Our strategic objectives include increasing the number of students enrolled in and completing high-wage, high-demand career pathways, increasing student attainment of industry-recognized credentials and early post-secondary credit, providing more students with work-based learning experiences, and empowering educators to reimagine classroom learning through educator externships.

Primary Responsibilities
The ElevateEdAZ Senior Career Pathways Coach is an integral member of the assigned school communities – ASU Prep Phoenix and ASU Prep South Phoenix – and reports to Foundation staff. The Coach partners with educators and administrators to coordinate career awareness and development opportunities for students and teachers, ranging from broad exploration to job shadows and internships. Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Connect ASU Prep leaders and ElevateEdAZ staff to evaluate and advance career and technical learning pathways that:
    1. Align with regional high-skill, high-demand, high-wage careers,
    2. Accelerate learning through early postsecondary credits, and
    3. Connect to postsecondary programs and credentials.
  2. Establish with ASU Prep leaders and ElevateEdAZ staff a student and family awareness plan to increase student enrollment in and completion of career pathways aligned with ElevateEdAZ’s priority industry sectors.
    1. Help students explore career pathways by facilitating aptitude assessments and guiding them in interpreting the results.
    2. Partner with the District Director and school leaders to promote awareness of the pathways aligned with ElevateEdAZ’s priority sectors, including but not limited to: Business Management, Marketing, and Sales; Engineering; Health Sciences.
    3. Promote these pathways to prospective students to increase enrollment and completion.
  3. Increase student attainment of industry-recognized credentials and early postsecondary credit.
  1. Expand and promote opportunities for students to earn industry-recognized credentials.
  2. Promote postsecondary pathways aligned to ASU Prep’s goals and Universal Learning Course offering while maintaining current knowledge of options connected to priority-sector career pathways.
  1. Increase student participation in capstone work-based learning experiences, including internships and job shadows, and in career exploration activities such as career fairs and guest speaker events.
  1. Maintain employer relationships at assigned schools in partnership with the ElevateEdAZ Business Partnership Team, faculty, and administrators.
  2. Match students with work-based learning opportunities with an emphasis on job shadows and internships.
  3. Prepare students to apply for internship placements through individual and group support, including résumé writing, mock interviews, and workplace etiquette training.
  4. Partner with school administrators to create flexible schedules and remove barriers to student participation in job shadows and internships.
  5. Plan and deliver on-campus career awareness and exploration events and activities.
  6. Help identify transportation solutions—such as travel vouchers, vans, or buses—that enable students to participate in work-based learning opportunities.
  1. Empower educators to reimagine classroom learning through employer-led externships that build technical knowledge, clarify the skills industry leaders seek, and help teachers integrate those skills into their curricula.
  1. Promote and support teacher externships and assist educators with employer engagement.
  1. Administration
    1. Understand and follow all school and network policies, procedures, and practices.
    2. Represent ElevateEdAZ at assigned schools by participating in faculty, staff, and other relevant school meetings.
    3. Dedicate work time to ElevateEdAZ priorities without disrupting the school’s educational services.
    4. Complement other student support roles, including dual enrollment coordinators and counselors, and connect students who need social or academic assistance with appropriate services.
    5. Document all activities accurately, completely, and on time.
    6. Keep the ElevateEdAZ District Director and other staff informed of progress and barriers related to key objectives.
    7. Maintain a visible, welcoming ElevateEdAZ space within each assigned school.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

The ideal candidate works effectively with youth, employers, educators, school administrators, and Chamber/Foundation staff. They communicate clearly and positively, both verbally and nonverbally, take initiative, and advance work with minimal direction. They are highly organized and maintain momentum across multiple projects and activities.

As a Foundation employee, the Coach collaborates across departments and contributes to the Chamber’s organizational mission. The position is based at the assigned schools, ASU Prep Phoenix and ASU Prep South Phoenix, four days per week, works remotely one day per week, and reports to the Chamber/Foundation office approximately one to two days per month. Typical hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on campus and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on office days.


Successful candidates should demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • At least two years of experience in partnership management, community relations, or customer relations
  • At least one year of experience working with youth or in an educational setting, preferably in teaching or school counseling
  • Industry experience strongly preferred
  • Understanding of integrating work-based, project-based, or experiential learning opportunities preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build professional relationships
  • Strong analytical skills to solve problems, anticipate challenges, and identify opportunities and solutions
  • Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers at all organizational levels
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to stay organized while managing multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to travel regularly to schools and partner sites, with reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a background check, fingerprint clearance, and drug screening
