The Windsor Independent Living Association (WILA) is a private, not for Profit Corporation, established in 1976 for the purpose of supporting adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities in north central Connecticut. WILA's Mission is to assist people with developmental disabilities in their efforts to live full lives as integral, respected members of the community.

WILA provides community-based group homes, supervised apartments, supported employment and non-vocational daytime programming, for people of all abilities, in a variety of settings. Position Summary & Key Areas of Ownership

Responsibilities of the evening IHS ADL Counselor position include demonstrating a commitment to community integration and support of adults with intellectual disabilities; act with integrity; honor confidentiality; show pride in WILA; be professional; possess self-confidence, optimism, and perseverance; show good judgment; possess good verbal and written communication skills; possess good computer skills; possess good organizational skills; be able to work independently; interact with tact and social sensitivity; and be flexible and willing to adapt to the changes/needs of the program and the individuals served.

Schedule: Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 4:00pm – 10:00pm (18 hours)

Salary Range: $18.50 to $22.00, per hour.

Core Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to: other duties include advocating for individuals to lead self- directed lives; providing care and supervision including med administration, hygiene, showering, activities of daily living, following behavior and medical protocols, and implementing all aspects of their IP; attending to individuals' needs during the night; readying the individuals for the day; timely status check call-ins, miscellaneous household upkeep and other assigned third shift duties; professional communication; and participating in staff meetings.
  • Participate in all meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Requirements

  • Must possess a high school degree or GED certification; a college degree is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, preferably in a residential setting; day program experience preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate with leadership and stakeholders and work with diverse teams.
  • Active CPR, First Aid and DDS Medication Administration Certification.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Application and Therap.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • Must possess an active DDS Medication Certification.
