Job Title: Diesel Mechanic

Job Description

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced diesel or auto mechanic to perform repair and maintenance on trucks and buses in a supportive shop environment. You will diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure all work meets factory and industry standards. You will collaborate closely with a team of mechanics, maintain accurate service records, and help keep a critical fleet running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor and major repairs on trucks and buses in accordance with factory and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance on service trucks, including inspections, tire rotations, and oil changes.
  • Run diagnostics on vehicles to identify mechanical and electrical issues and determine appropriate repair plans.
  • Collaborate with the repair team and lead mechanics to diagnose problems and coordinate repair work.
  • Perform regular diagnostic tests on trucks and related equipment.
  • Maintain an organized parts inventory and ensure cleanliness and safety in the shop area.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed on each vehicle.
  • Work with cooling and analog systems as part of diagnostic and repair activities.
  • Follow all safety procedures and shop guidelines while using tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Support company goals by completing assigned work efficiently and to a high quality standard.

Essential Skills

  • 1–3 years of experience working as a mechanic (diesel, auto, heavy equipment, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience performing diagnostics and repairs on engines.
  • Experience working with cooling systems and analog systems.
  • History in diesel mechanic, auto mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, or power generation equipment repair.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on trucks and buses.
  • Strong electrical and troubleshooting skills related to vehicle systems.
  • Ability to obtain a SIDA badge for airport access
  • Ability to work any assigned shift, including 1st (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.), 2nd (2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.), or 3rd (10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.), with potential schedules such as Monday–Friday, Tuesday–Saturday, or Sunday–Thursday.
  • Ability to work safely in a shop environment that can be cold in winter and hot in summer.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate repair and maintenance records.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Cummins engine experience preferred.
  • CDL license is a plus but not required; willingness to pursue CDL is beneficial.
  • Experience working in a collaborative shop environment alongside other mechanics.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Interest in pursuing additional certifications such as ASE with company-supported training.

Why Work Here?

The shop offers a laid-back, team-oriented culture where mechanics support one another and work closely together. Once hired on permanently, you can join a union and gain access to comprehensive benefits, including medical, vision, and dental coverage, as well as a tool allowance to support your trade. The organization invests in your professional growth by providing training opportunities such as ASE courses and other technical development, and it also assists with obtaining a CDL license. This environment provides long-term stability, strong benefits, and clear opportunities to advance your skills and career.

Work Environment

You will work in an indoor mechanic shop that can be cold during the winter and hot during the summer, so comfort with varying temperatures is important. The role involves hands-on work with trucks, buses, and service vehicles using standard and specialized mechanical and diagnostic tools. You will collaborate daily with lead mechanics and other team members in a relaxed, cooperative atmosphere where everyone helps each other. The dress code requires steel-toed boots, and the company provides uniforms for shop work. Shifts may include 1st (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.), 2nd (2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.), or 3rd (10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.) with schedules that may run Monday–Friday, Tuesday–Saturday, or Sunday–Thursday, depending on operational needs.
