Multi-Slide Setup Operator

Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Four-Slide / Multi-Slide Setup Operator to join our production team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for setting up, adjusting, troubleshooting, and proving out complex mechanical tooling on multi-slide forming machines and stamping equipment. Working with wire diameters ranging from 0.005″ to 0.500″ and flat strip stock, you will ensure setup efficiency, tight tolerances, and high-quality production runs in accordance with AS9100D standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Machine & Tooling Setup: Install, align, and sequence cams, slides, punches, wire straighteners, feeds, and cut-off mechanisms on four-slide / multi-slide machinery according to blueprints and set-up sheets.

First-Piece Inspection: Perform complete first-piece approvals using precision measurement tools (optical comparators, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators) to verify compliance with dimensional specifications prior to production release.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve setup issues, mechanical timing errors, material feeding problems, and die wear during production runs to minimize downtime and scrap.

Material & Equipment Management: Load, feed, and adjust decoilers and straighteners for various ferrous and non-ferrous wire and strip materials.

Tool Room Collaboration: Partner with our in-house Tool & Die Maker team to communicate tool wear, suggest tool design improvements, and support prototype/sample runs.

Quality & Documentation: Maintain accurate setup sheets, production logs, and quality documentation in accordance with AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
Qualifications & Technical Requirements:

Experience: 3+ years of proven setup and operation experience on Four-Slide or Multi-Slide machines (e.g., Nilson, U.S. Baird, or similar wire/strip forming equipment).

Blueprint Reading: Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, mechanical schematics, setup instructions, and GD&T specs.

Inspection Proficiency: Hands-on expertise using precision measuring tools including optical comparators, micrometers, height gauges, and calipers.

Material Knowledge: Familiarity with the physical properties and forming characteristics of spring steel, stainless steel, low/high-carbon wire, and non-ferrous alloys.

Mechanical Aptitude: Outstanding troubleshooting skills regarding mechanical timing, slide clearances, bending sequences, and press feeds.
