Job DescriptionFrozen Manager
Soelbergs Marketplace
About the Role
At Soelbergs Marketplace, we treat our team like family - because that's how we build the kind of stores our communities love to shop in. As Frozen Manager, you'll take full ownership of the Frozen Department: keeping it stocked, fresh, and welcoming, while leading a team that delivers great service every day. It's a hands-on leadership role for someone who takes pride in a well-run department and genuinely enjoys coaching others to do their best work.
What You'll Do
Run the Department
-
Own ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, and merchandising for the Frozen Department, keeping displays full and appealing.
-
Rotate stock using FIFO, monitor product dates, and use timely markdowns to reduce shrink and protect freshness.
-
Conduct regular cycle counts and keep inventory records accurate.
-
Handle damaged product properly and ensure timely credit returns on outdated or damaged vendor items.
Lead the Team
-
Train, schedule, and coach Frozen clerks, building a team that works well together and covers shifts reliably.
-
Partner with the Assistant Grocery Manager on training across roles.
-
Set the tone for the department: professional, collaborative, and open to continuous improvement.
Take Care of Guests
-
Greet guests warmly, help them find what they need, and share product knowledge that makes shopping easier.
-
Handle special orders and resolve concerns quickly and professionally.
-
Keep the department fully stocked and presentable so every guest's impression is a good one.
Drive Department Performance
-
Track sales against targets and spot opportunities to improve.
-
Build schedules that match labor budgets to sales forecasts.
-
Review P&L, shrink, and waste reports
-
Set pricing that's competitive and on-strategy, and train the team to keep labeling accurate.
-
Approve markdowns, discounts, and department promotions.
-
Work with vendors to purchase cost-effectively and prevent overstocking.
Keep It Safe and Clean
-
Maintain food safety, sanitation, and cold-chain standards throughout the department.
-
Flag safety hazards or equipment issues right away.
-
Lead by example on cleanliness and safety for the rest of the team.
What You Bring
-
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
-
1–2 years of grocery or retail experience, ideally in Frozen or another perishable department.
-
Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
-
Comfortable with basic computer use - inventory systems, email, ordering platforms - plus Word and Excel.
-
Solid math skills for reports and budgets.
-
Good working knowledge of frozen product handling, shelf life, and storage requirements.
-
Clear communicator, both written and verbal, who can respond promptly to guests, team members, and pages.
Good to Know
-
Age requirement: 18+
-
Schedule: Generally scheduled 8 hour shifts in the range of 6:00 AM–6:00 PM, with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
-
On your feet: This is an active role - standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs, including overhead and floor-to-shoulder lifting, throughout your shift. Occasional use of ladders or step stools required.
-
Tools you'll use: Pallet jack, forklift, box cutter, two- and six-wheelers, hand-held ordering device, computer, phone/intercom.
This job description isn't all-inclusive - team members may take on other related duties as the needs of the store evolve.
