Location: Chicago, Illinois; Washington, DC
Practice Area: Investment Management / Registered Funds
Experience: 4–7 years
Compensation: $290,000–$350,000

Direct Counsel is seeking a Corporate Associate to join a highly respected Am Law firm in its Investment Services team in Chicago or Washington, DC. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 4–7 years of investment management and federal securities regulatory experience to join a collaborative, client-facing practice with meaningful responsibility and strong mentorship.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience advising:

  • Registered investment companies
  • Investment advisers
  • Mutual funds
  • Exchange-traded funds (ETFs)
  • Closed-end funds
  • Independent trustees and directors

Candidates should also have substantive experience with:

  • Regulatory and compliance matters under the Investment Company Act of 1940
  • Federal securities law issues under the Securities Act of 1933
  • Investment company reorganizations and mergers
  • Fund governance and board matters
  • Managing multiple sophisticated matters simultaneously
  • Leading key workstreams and participating directly in client service initiatives

The practice offers exposure to a multidisciplinary platform, allowing associates to work closely with senior attorneys on transactional, regulatory, governance, and business development matters.

Candidates should bring:

  • Strong academic credentials
  • Excellent drafting and communication skills
  • Ability to manage matters independently
  • A client-service mindset with strong interpersonal skills
  • Admission (or path to admission) in the applicable jurisdiction
