Orthodontic Clinical Assistant

Full-time (32+ hours/week)

State College Orthodontics is a close-knit, single-location practice led by Dr. Ray. We combine advanced digital orthodontics with a team culture built on trust, mutual respect, and genuine care for our patients and families. We're looking for a skilled Clinical Assistant who takes pride in their chairside work and loves helping patients reach their best smiles.
Schedule
- 7:20 AM – 4:40 PM on scheduled days
- One-hour lunch, typically 11:40 AM – 12:40 PM (may shift based on patient care needs)
- Alternating admin days off
What You'll Do
Chairside Patient Care
- Greet and seat patients, and review and update medical histories
- Assist the doctor with bonding, including indirect bonding
- Place and remove separators, bands, brackets, and archwires
- Seat and remove appliances (retainers, expanders, Invisalign, Herbst, Forsus, Carriere, and more)
- Perform Invisalign protocols, including inserts, refinements, and finishes
- Take x-rays, photos, impressions, bite registrations, and intraoral scans
Digital Workflow & Documentation
- Accurately record treatment, update tooth charts, and manage treatment plans at every visit
- Submit scans and appliance Rxs, and maintain our digital workflow
- Schedule next visits chairside and prepare patients for checkout
Patient Education & Relationships
- Coach patients on oral hygiene, appliance care, and elastics
- Keep parents informed of treatment progress
- Make daily care calls and send referrals and progress records to dentists and specialists
- Help celebrate patients at their deband visits
Lab & Sterilization
- 3D print study and work models, and pour and trim stone models
- Fabricate Essix retainers and mouthguards, and fill Invisalign pontics
- Follow OSHA, CDC, and office infection control standards for instruments and operatories
Team & Practice Growth
- Support patient contests, community events, and referring-dentist relationships
- Help with inventory, stocking, and keeping clinical areas clean and organized
- Participate actively in team and committee meetings
What You Bring
- Radiography (x-ray) certification
- Current CPR certification
- Infection control certification
- DANB certification
- SOA (Specialized Orthodontic Assistant) or COA (Certified Orthodontic Assistant)
- Proficiency with electronic treatment records, imaging, Microsoft Word, and Excel
- Strong communication skills with patients, parents, doctors, and referring dentists
- A team-first attitude and solid problem-solving skills
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs
- Able to bend, squat, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, twist, and reach overhead
- High manual dexterity and normal (or corrected) vision and hearing
