Engineering Manager

Overview
A multi-disciplinary engineering and consulting organization is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead regional operations and oversee the delivery of civil engineering and professional services projects. This role is responsible for driving technical execution, team leadership, business development, and financial performance across a portfolio of projects.
The Engineering Manager will provide strategic direction and operational oversight, ensuring successful delivery of engineering design, project management, and client engagement initiatives while maintaining high standards of quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Core Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of project managers, engineers, and technical staff
- Drive team performance, resource planning, and workforce development
- Oversee hiring, performance management, and professional development initiatives
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and leadership across engineering disciplines
Project Management & Technical Execution
- Oversee planning, scheduling, and execution of civil engineering projects
- Manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget
- Ensure delivery of high-quality engineering design, technical documentation, and project deliverables
- Lead QA/QC processes, technical reviews, and compliance with industry standards
- Address and resolve complex engineering challenges using analytical problem-solving and technical expertise
Client Management & Business Development
- Maintain strong client relationships and stakeholder engagement
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, and public hearings
- Support proposal development, contract negotiation, and scope definition
- Identify and pursue business development opportunities, market expansion, and pipeline growth
- Collaborate with internal teams to drive sales strategy and revenue generation
Financial Management & Operational Oversight
- Manage project budgets, cost control, forecasting, and financial performance (P&L)
- Oversee invoicing, accounts receivable, and revenue tracking
- Ensure efficient resource utilization and workload forecasting
- Monitor and improve operational efficiency, profitability, and project performance metrics
Process Improvement & Quality Assurance
- Develop and maintain systems for project tracking, performance monitoring, and reporting accuracy
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, process optimization, and workflow standardization
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, engineering standards, and internal policies
- Oversee data accuracy, reporting completeness, and deliverable quality across all projects
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with leadership on strategic planning, operational initiatives, and organizational goals
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including subconsultants and regulatory agencies
- Communicate effectively with senior leadership on performance, risks, and opportunities
Qualifications & Experience
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in civil engineering, project management, or professional services consulting
- Proven experience managing engineering teams and complex project portfolios
- Demonstrated success in business development, client management, and revenue growth
- Experience operating within a multi-disciplinary engineering or consulting environment
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required
Technical Competencies
- Expertise in civil engineering design, project lifecycle management, and technical problem-solving
- Strong knowledge of project scheduling, budgeting, and financial management
- Experience with proposal development, RFQs/RFPs, and contract negotiation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project, Word, Outlook)
- Familiarity with engineering software, reporting systems, and project management tools
