Job Description Summary

The Maintenance Utility Technician is an entry-level, hands-on role dedicated to supporting the operations and maintenance team in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable functioning of facilities and equipment. This role provides assistance with routine maintenance, preventive tasks, and basic troubleshooting while learning and developing technical skills across mechanical, electrical, and building systems. The Maintenance Utility Technician contributes to team success by performing assigned tasks accurately and safely, gaining experience, and building a foundation for growth within the facilities maintenance field.

Job Description

Experience, Education & Job Requirements
oHigh school diploma or GED equivalent.
oTechnical, vocational, or on the job training in one or more of the following trades: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing.
o1-2 years of related facility maintenance experience.
oValid driver"s license with a clean driving record
Commercial license may be required depending on site needs.
oBasic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
oAt least 1 year of experience using a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
oAssist with troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on building systems including:
Air compressors, plumbing, basic electrical, HVAC systems
Roofs, drains, shop equipment, and grounds maintenance equipment
oSupport installation, modification, and maintenance of building equipment and systems.
oReview, create, and maintain work orders and related documentation within the CMMS.
oRepair and replace building finishes such as ceiling tiles, door hardware, wallpaper, and painted surfaces on walls, piping, floors, and equipment.
oInspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions; perform reactive and preventive maintenance.
oOperate and maintain fire and life safety systems including fire alarms, fire pumps, and related equipment.
oDemonstrate competent knowledge in the safe use and care of facility maintenance tools and equipment.
oAssist with identifying, coordinating, and overseeing outside contractors or vendors from sourcing to job completion.
oRespond promptly to emergency calls and customer service requests.
oUse technology effectively: smartphones, tablets, computers, web based applications, and building automation systems.
oComply with all applicable codes, regulations, government requirements, and company policies.
oMaintain a professional appearance and always follow company dress code.
oSupport all assigned tasks with flexibility, accountability, and a strong team first mindset.

Work Environment
oWork takes place in both professional office settings and industrial/warehouse environments, indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
oRegular use of maintenance tools as well as standard office equipment (computers, phones, printers).
oMay be the only maintenance staff member on duty during certain shifts.
oMay be required to work extended periods during emergencies, including overtime assignments.
oShift work and/or stand by on call duties may be required.
Physical Demands
Employees must be able to:
oUse ladders and lifting equipment to work at heights.
oPerform year round outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
oCommunicate effectively to exchange accurate information.
oOperate computers and standard office equipment.
oMove throughout the workplace, including bending, stooping, and kneeling; remain in stationary positions as needed.
oExtend hands and arms in multiple directions to complete tasks.
oLift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
