Overview:

The FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) for Advanced Aerospace co-located at the Atlantic City International Airport is the nation's premier federal aviation laboratory for advancing the United States National Airspace System (NAS) and sustaining its continued safe and efficient operations. The Aviation Research Division performs research, analyses, and development to enable new technologies, procedures, and training methods that advance aviation technology. The highly technical and diverse workforce at the Technical Center uses more than 25 onsite, specialized aviation safety laboratories to perform their work. In full-scale facilities and state-of-the-art labs, researchers are working toward reducing fatalities and injuries, reducing aircraft losses, creating better designs, improving maintenance and inspection procedures, and enhancing the safety of operations at our nation's airports.

Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be responsible for providing advanced analytical and technical support in a strategic WJHTC Research & Development (R&D) laboratory. The candidate will collaborate with FAA engineers, scientists, and researchers to validate analytical outputs against operational realities and ensure full alignment with FAA R&D standards. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Critical skillsets include systems design and development, LabVIEW development, project and team leadership skills, and technical decision making with a focus on safety and reliability
  • Support the Test Site Operations Team by designing, developing, testing, integrating, diagnosing, and upgrading software used in R&D testing
  • Work in National Instruments (NI) LabVIEW, including LabVIEW Real-Time, to create and maintain control and measurement applications
  • Work with sensors including but not limited to pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, and flow meters
  • Ensure compliance with applicable software development standards and best practices
  • Interface with various test and measurement instruments
  • Implement and support communication protocols including TCP/IP, Network Streams, Serial, HTTP and WebDAV

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this role will have technical experience to provide guidance to other Test Site Operations Team members, to make informed architecture decisions, and guide the development process while working as a Team member on active development projects. Additional qualifications include:

  • You will be required to work on-site at the FAA WJHTC for Advanced Aerospace
  • You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident qualified to work for a U.S. government agency
  • Education: B.S. or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering field (with strong programming background)
  • 8+ years relevant experience
  • Capacity to communicate effectively and work in team environments
  • Proficiency in configuration management support using code repository tools such as GitHub
  • Proficiency in review and documentation of legacy code
