Commissioning Engineer – HVAC & Building Automation
$85,000 to $115,000 + Vehicle | Northeastern United States
Join a leading performance contracting firm delivering high-efficiency HVAC, mechanical, and building automation solutions for commercial, healthcare, and institutional facilities. As a Commissioning Engineer, you’ll ensure complex mechanical and controls systems are installed, tested, and optimized to meet stringent project specifications and energy performance goals.
Responsibilities

Lead commissioning and functional performance testing of HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, humidifiers, VAV boxes, and AHUs.

Verify installation and operation of control sequences across BAS/BMS platforms with DDC controls.

Collaborate with mechanical contractors, controls technicians, and project managers to resolve performance issues.

Execute equipment startup procedures, document test results, and prepare detailed commissioning reports.

Support energy efficiency measures through system optimization, fault detection, and corrective action.
Key Qualifications

Associate’s in Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred.

3+ years’ experience commissioning HVAC equipment and controls in commercial or institutional environments.

Strong technical knowledge of chillers, boilers, humidifiers, cooling towers, pumps, ductwork, and terminal units.

Hands-on proficiency with BAS/BMS platforms and familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, and DDC controls.

Skilled in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and commissioning software tools.

Preferred certifications: BCxA, CxA, PE, or LEED AP.
