Position Title: Safety Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Arrangement: On-Site, Newport, MN
Compensation: $25 – $28 / hour

In this role, you'll partner with leaders and team members across multiple locations to drive safety initiatives, support compliance, deliver training, investigate incidents, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of company safety programs, policies, procedures, and written plans.
- Support compliance with OSHA, MNOSHA, applicable DOT and EPA requirements, company policies, and established safety practices.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, records, permits, certifications, inspection reports, corrective-action records, and training logs.
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities, jobsites, equipment, work areas, and work practices to identify hazards and compliance concerns.
- Collaborate with supervisors and managers to address identified hazards, implement corrective actions, and reinforce safe work practices and accountability.
- Support required safety training, safety meetings, and employee communications to promote understanding and consistent application of safety expectations.
- Assist with investigations of injuries, incidents, near misses, and property damage, and help identify measures to prevent recurrence.
- Analyze incident, inspection, training, and corrective-action information to identify trends, priorities, and opportunities for improvement.
- Promote employee participation in safety initiatives, hazard reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Serve as a safety resource to employees, supervisors, and managers, providing practical guidance and support on safety-related concerns.
- Participate in operational improvement initiatives that affect employee health, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide regular updates to the Safety Director regarding safety activities, emerging concerns, corrective actions, and priorities.
- Support safety needs across company locations, including travel for inspections, training, investigations, and operational support as required.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in safety, operations, production, human resources, training, administration, or a related work environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to maintain accurate records and follow up on open items.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with employees, supervisors, and managers.
- Ability to identify concerns, gather information, and assist with practical solutions.
- Comfortable using computers and standard business applications.
- Ability to conduct or support employee training and group meetings.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and respond to changing needs.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Safety-related education, certification, or training.
- Bilingual Spanish-English skills.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
This position is based at the Newport, Minnesota location and is primarily office-based. Frequent local travel is required to nearby company locations, including Hastings, Cottage Grove, and Woodbury. Occasional overnight and out-of-state travel may also be required.
The role may require time in warehouse, nursery, greenhouse, shipping, loading, outdoor, and production areas. The employee may be exposed to typical outdoor weather conditions and greenhouse environments. The employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, communicate, use a computer, review documents, and move throughout office and operational areas as needed.
