Senior Mass Properties Engineer
Location: San Fran Bay Area
- 2 weeks onsite in San Fran Bay Area, 2 weeks offsite (remote) a month for the first two months of the contract. 1 week a month onsite thereafter.
Duration: 6 month contract with high likelihood of conversion to FTE or contract extension
Engagement: W2 or 1099
Rates: Flexible - the client is focused on finding the right people and is therefore open to market rate.
Overview
The Staff Mass Properties Engineer provides essential technical support for the Weight and Balance program. This role is responsible for the rigorous tracking of aircraft mass distribution to ensure regulatory compliance and mission success. You will manage the lifecycle of mass data, from early-stage design through to FAA certification and delivery.
Core Responsibilities
- Execute day-to-day mass properties program plans and maintain the master weight database.
- Generate comprehensive reports on Weight, Center of Gravity (CG), and Moments of Inertia.
- Interface with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to collect and validate structural and system mass data.
- Coordinate and participate in physical aircraft weighing operations and structural audits.
- Prepare technical documentation required for FAA weight and balance certification.
Qualifications
- BS in Engineering (Aerospace/Mechanical preferred) or equivalent technical experience.
- 3+ years of experience in mass properties or aircraft systems.
- Strong understanding of Newtonian physics as applied to dynamic flight systems.
- Capable of performing physical inspections and hands-on technical data collection.
