The Role

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Emotional Support Therapist to serve students with autism and/or significant intellectual disabilities. In this role, you will provide therapeutic support to help students develop independence in academics, social skills, communication, self-regulation, and daily living skills.

This position is ideal for a therapist who values meaningful, student-centered interventions, thrives in a collaborative environment, and believes every learner deserves the opportunity to grow and succeed.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide individualized and small-group emotional and behavioral support sessions to help students build self-regulation, coping skills, and positive social behaviors.

  • Implement evidence-based therapeutic strategies and interventions tailored to students with autism and/or significant intellectual disabilities.

  • Create a safe, structured, and supportive environment that promotes emotional stability, student independence, and positive daily routines.

  • Assess and track students’ emotional, behavioral, and functional progress, maintaining clear documentation and sharing updates with the team as needed.

  • Collaborate closely with teachers, parents, related service providers, and school administrators to ensure coordinated and consistent support plans.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students while maintaining fairness, consistency, and high expectations for growth.

  • Engage in professional development, coaching, and ongoing learning to strengthen therapeutic skills and stay aligned with best practices.

  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support student wellbeing and overall program success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Behavioral Health, Special Education, or a related human-services field (preferred).

  • Eligibility for Delaware licensure or certification appropriate for providing emotional or behavioral support services (or willingness to complete required coursework, if needed).

  • Experience working with students with autism and/or significant intellectual or developmental disabilities.

  • Strong skills in behavior intervention, emotional regulation strategies, and crisis-prevention techniques.

  • Ability to build trust, inspire students, and maintain collaborative relationships with families and school teams.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
