Who is B&D?

Since 1993, B&D has empowered hundreds of colleges and universities, PK–12 schools, municipalities, and professional sports organizations to achieve their bold visions through the built environment. We are seeking an ambitious and entrepreneurial Assistant Project Manager (APM) who has a passion for shaping and strengthening their communities!

Position Purpose

The APM supports project teams to successfully deliver program management assignments across various client types, including K–12 public schools and community recreation facilities. The APM is a client advisor responsible for implementing small to medium-scale projects, typically around $10 million.

This role is located in the Washington, DC, area and requires 3-5 days of on-site attendance per week.

Responsibilities

Assignments span both pre-development and implementation and may include:

  • Cost estimating and schedule development
  • Consultant procurement and design oversight
  • Construction monitoring and constructability reviews
  • Budget reconciliation and project documentation
  • A&E selection management, public approvals, and permitting
  • Schedule compliance and commissioning activities
  • Support senior team members on large, complex programs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Three years of full-time experience in pre-construction, construction, or as an owner's representative in commercial, educational, or institutional projects is required.

  • Reliable transportation to our DC office and to client sites in the DMV areas as required.

  • Strong knowledge of project management concepts and methodologies within B&D’s project types.

  • Full authorization to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship. B&D is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas now or in the future.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.

  • Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, and creativity.

  • Proven ability to thrive in team settings and mentor junior staff.

  • Commitment to client satisfaction and ethical business practices.

  • Sensitivity to and understanding of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

This role's target base annual salary range is currently $75,000-90,000. Pay scales are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education, experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate, and pay relative to other team members.
