This entry-level general labor role supports a busy, organized job shop by preparing display window units for shipment, performing light assembly, and assisting with shipping and receiving as needed. You work with hand and power tools to clean, assemble, and finish window displays so they are ready to present to customers, while maintaining a strong focus on quality and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Clean display windows thoroughly using cleaning solutions such as glass cleaner to ensure they are visually appealing and ready for shipment.
  • Perform light assembly of various window display units using screw guns, cordless drills, and other basic power tools.
  • Bolt and secure components, ensuring all screws and fasteners are properly installed and tightened.
  • Use a tape measure for minor measurements to support accurate assembly and placement of components.
  • Carry out minor painting and touch-up work on display units to ensure a clean, finished appearance before shipping.
  • Prepare products for packaging, ensuring all items are properly protected and organized for shipment.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving tasks as needed, including handling materials and finished products within the warehouse or shop.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, promptly cleaning windows and displays prior to shipment.
  • Work independently or as part of a team of 7–8 people, depending on the task and production requirements.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
  • Lift and move materials and products, using team lifts for items over 50 pounds to ensure safe handling.
  • Fulfill the full contract period of approximately 3–6 months as required for the assignment.
  • Be available and willing to work overtime when required to meet production and shipping deadlines.

Essential Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and a quality-driven mindset to ensure display products look professional before shipping.
  • Comfort working in a shop environment, preferably with prior exposure to a wood shop or similar setting.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and power tools such as cordless drills, screw guns, and wrenches.
  • Basic familiarity with a cordless screwdriver or willingness to learn and use similar tools.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure for minor measurements.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds, using team lifts for heavier items.
  • Reliability and commitment to fulfill a 3–6 month contract.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Approximately 6+ months of shop experience, preferably in a wood-type shop, including experience gained through home hobbies.
  • Experience with painting, sanding, and general finishing work on wood or display products.
  • Background in assembly, packaging, warehouse, construction, or carpentry environments.
  • Familiarity with tools such as saws, nail guns, and other common shop equipment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team of 7–8 people, adapting to different tasks as needed.
  • Comfort performing repetitive tasks while maintaining consistent quality standards.

Work Environment

The role is based in an open, very organized job shop environment where you work either independently or within a team of 7–8 people, depending on the task. Standard hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with extended hours up to 4:30 p.m. when extra time is needed. A second shift operates from 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with additional hours possible on Fridays. Overtime may be required based on production demands. You use a variety of hand and power tools, including cordless drills, screw guns, saws, nail guns, wrenches, and tape measures, in a shop and warehouse setting. The dress code consists of a t-shirt, jeans, and work boots or leather boots; athletic or tennis shoes are not permitted. Personal protective equipment is provided on the first day to support a safe and compliant work environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Afton, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
