We are seeking a skilled Automotive Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicle makes and models, mostly domestic vehicles, and performing basic repairs and maintenance on our small fleet of company tow trucks. We are a relatively small but very busy shop so customer work can be selected to suit your preference. We're looking for someone with the necessary skill and experience to occupy both bays of our 2 bay shop, with assistance from hourly employees when necessary. Diagnostic capabilities and problem solving skills are highly desired, as well as organization and time management. If you enjoy working with little oversight and prefer to manage your jobs and scheduling to best suit your life and schedule this may be a good fit.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics using automotive electrical systems, schematics, and advanced diagnostic tools to identify issues accurately.
- Conduct repairs on various vehicle systems including engines, suspensions, brakes, shocks & struts, and powertrain components.
- Handle routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes and tune ups.
- Interpret technical manuals and schematics to troubleshoot complex automotive electrical systems and mechanical failures.
- Coordinate job scheduling & parts ordering with our service writer.
- Post repair testing and verification before vehicles are returned to their owners.
- Inspect and repair shop owned vehicles to be prepared for sale.
Skills
- Experience with older vehicles, carburetors, and ignition systems is highly desirable.
- Experience with diesel engine service and repair necessary.
- Experience with some heavy equipment and tow trucks a big plus.
- Familiarity with automotive electrical systems, auto estimating procedures, and GM vehicles is highly desirable.
- Skilled in welding, suspension work, shocks & struts replacement, and brake repair.
- Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, automotive electrical systems testing equipment, and schematics interpretation.
- Sufficient mechanical knowledge and diagnostic experience to troubleshoot issues with only minor assistance.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients and service writers.
- Self motivation, Time management and organization skills.
- Ability to organize and manage tasks with little oversight with attention to detail and deadlines.
