Job DescriptionMaintenance Technician – Long-Term Care Facility
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician in a long-term care facility is responsible for ensuring the safety, functionality, and comfort of the building and its systems for residents, staff, and visitors. This role focuses on maintaining a clean, hazard-free, and well-functioning environment that meets healthcare regulations and supports resident well-being.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and lighting

Conduct preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and resident safety

Respond promptly to maintenance requests from nursing staff and administration

Repair fixtures such as beds, wheelchairs, handrails, doors, and bathroom equipment

Ensure proper functioning of safety systems (fire alarms, emergency lighting, call systems)

Maintain heating and cooling systems to ensure resident comfort

Inspect facility for safety hazards and correct issues (e.g., leaks, trip hazards, faulty equipment)

Assist with room preparation and turnover for new admissions

Maintain outdoor areas, including snow removal, lawn care, and walkways

Keep maintenance logs, work orders, and compliance documentation up to date

Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors when necessary
Regulatory & Safety Duties:

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, life safety codes)

Support facility readiness for inspections and audits

Follow infection control procedures and proper sanitation practices

Handle hazardous materials safely and according to guidelines
Required Skills & Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (technical or trade certification preferred)

Previous maintenance experience, preferably in healthcare or residential settings

Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems

Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment efficiently

Strong attention to safety and detail

Good communication skills and ability to work respectfully around elderly residents

Ability to prioritize urgent repairs in a healthcare environment

Basic computer skills for work order systems
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a nursing home, assisted living, or healthcare facility

HVAC certification or electrical licensing

Knowledge of life safety systems and emergency preparedness
Work Environment:
