We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Designer. This role focuses on the design and development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signal design, and broadband fiber network infrastructure for public and private sector projects. The position will be located in our Hillsborough or Raleigh office.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop design plans, layouts, and details for ITS, traffic signal, and fiber optic network projects in accordance with agency standards and specifications.
  • Prepare construction drawings, diagrams, schematics, and wiring plans for signal and communication systems.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and assist in cost estimating.
  • Coordinate with engineers to integrate electrical, and communications elements into final designs.
  • Review field data, as-built drawings, and survey information to ensure design accuracy.
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications, bid packages, and submittals.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and revision tracking.
  • Stay current on emerging ITS technologies, traffic signal equipment, and fiber network standards.
  • Perform field investigations.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Drafting & Design, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpenRoads or similar CAD platforms.
  • Knowledge of traffic signal design principles, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards, and fiber optic network layouts a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce precise, clear drawings.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • A good driving record and ability to drive to job sites as needed.
  • Ability to work in outside environments.

Summit Design and Engineering is an Equal Opportunity Employer. E-verify.

A background check, including a criminal and driving record check, will be performed. A criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate. Many factors will be considered when a conviction is present.
