Job DescriptionWe welcome you to our 20,000 square foot, 5-star lodge. Whether you're an avid hunter, a passionate fisher, or simply seeking an escape from the daily grind, our comfortable accommodations and expert guides are ready to make your next trip one you won’t forget. We are looking for a Farm and Lodge Laborer who has an interest in hunting and fishing and is handy around a farm. The ideal candidate is a self starter, loves the outdoors, and can work with light supervision.
Duties include:
Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops such as hay, soybeans, milo, sunflowers, and corn;
Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment;
Participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of (garden) crops;
Load inputs and drive trucks to transport to employer’s fields, load employer’s crops and drive trucks to transport to fields and storage facilities such as elevators, bins, silos, piles/bags in close proximity to the farm;
Start and operate handheld tools such as drills and saws;
Start and operate push mowers, weed whackers, trimmers, and other gas engine tools such as chainsaws and blowers;
Clean work areas and shops, and maintain grounds and landscaping;
Operate commercial lawn mower, navigating lodge and farm properties and around trees;
Identify needs and perform trimming and cutting down of trees;
Repair farm buildings, fences, and other structures such as feeders, waterers;
Winterize watering systems;
Attach sprinklers and attachments to water hoses for watering plants and trees, and be able to spray clean surfaces, specifically dog kennels, and be able to use a power washer, as needed;
Monitor pond filter and ensure pump operation year-round, including regular cleaning;
Clean inside and outside of vehicles and busses, as needed, and recommend maintenance;
Operate a utility golf cart and perform or recommend regular maintenance;
Discard garbage bags from around property into dumpster, including waste from fish and animal cleaning (salvaging meat) – fish, birds, deer;
Make decisions regarding safe working conditions and proper operation of all tools and equipment, and prepare those items for storage;
Problem solve independently or recommend solutions;
Count inventory items, notify of reorder points, rotate and stock purchases;
Feed dogs, freshen water, keep kennels clean and dry;
Report health of dogs, including cuts, infections, or any other defect that needs medical attention;
Be cordial to staff and customers, and willing to help with as needed
Requirements
Basic Job Requirements:
Must possess a valid SD (or equivalent) driver’s license, and maintain a clean driving record.
Be able to work in extreme conditions such as heat, humidity, wind, and cold. Lift and carry tools, supplies, fire wood, and other items, up to at least 50 lbs. Be able to push or pull, sit, stand, or walk for extensive periods of time, including frequent stooping or bending over, and repetitive movements.
Follow instructions. Ask appropriate clarifying questions. Be productive. Show interest and initiative. Be honest. Be detail- and action-oriented.
Communicate appropriately, even when a mistake happens or something doesn’t get done. Too many chain reactions occur due to concealment. Reveal it so we can fix it, learn from it, and move on.
Benefits
Overtime may occasionally be necessary, but should be kept to a minimum. During slow periods, hours may dip to 30/week, and unpaid time off will be allowed. Time off during peak may not be approved.
