Summary

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, this position primarily operates and maintains the CO2 Cutting and Engraving lasers, Plotters, and related tools and equipment. This position may also perform other production activities, including but not limited to supporting the production team by assembling parts, operating other machinery such as chop saws and milling machines, fabricating and assembling plastic products, and cleaning and maintaining equipment and the shop floor.

Essential Functions

1. Operate laser engraving and cutting machines, plotters, and other equipment used in production, or assist fellow machine operators. This includes daily laser calibration and adjustments.

2. Create and edit files for laser and plotter cutting. Create and modify files for laser engraving. Read and edit CAD drawings in various formats. Operate the laser and plotter software. Adjust laser settings to optimize cutting and engraving speed and efficiency. Load programs, set machine parameters, and use proper fixtures to ensure the equipment performs at its best.

3. Evaluate the results for accuracy and compliance, then refine the laser engraving files.

4. Manage and maintain files to always ensure consistent revision levels.

5. Monitor equipment, such as the fill level of chiller systems, and report reordering levels.

6. Pay close attention to detail and focus on the task given.

7. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on machines and equipment as required.

8. Conduct all dimensional inspections.

9. Identify and report defective materials or suspicious conditions.

10. Perform standard machine shop tasks to assist in the manufacturing and fabrication of plastic and aluminum components.

11. Must be familiar with the machine functions to perform the tasks listed above.

12. Must be willing to accept and receive supervision and assistance regarding machine setup.

13. Must be able to operate with minimal supervision after being trained by following work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures.

14. Always wear appropriate safety gear and follow the company's safety rules.

15. Contribute positively to maintaining a workplace that is healthy, safe, clean, and organized.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position provides a path to future supervisory duties as the company grows and expands production.

Work Environment

While performing job duties, the employee may be exposed to fumes, vapors, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. The work environment can be noisy.

Physical Demands

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities needed for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

The days and hours of work depend on your employment status; generally, they are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Travel

No travel is anticipated for this position.

Required Education and Experience

1. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

2. Two years of relevant shop experience operating and maintaining CO2 lasers and plotters.

3. Software skills: Minimum of two years of experience with Adobe Illustrator or similar vector graphics editing software.

4. Training on general safety awareness and practices.

5. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.

6. Ability to use and read tape measures. We use both English and metric systems of measurement. Working knowledge of calipers and micrometers is a plus.

7. Ability to read and write English, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions.

8. Proficient in using a PC in a Windows environment.

9. Simple shop math.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. At least three years of relevant shop experience, preferably in display and signage fabrication.

2. Experience with 2D/3D CAM/CAD software (AutoCAD/Rhino) and graphics design software is a plus.

3. Forklift operation experience is a significant advantage.

4. Experience with manufacturing software for scheduling, routing, and processing functions.

5. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and label printing software.

6. Experience with Apple Macintosh OS, Apple Mail, and other Apple software is a significant plus.

7. Experience in electrostatic discharge awareness and quality systems is a significant advantage.
