The PedalPower Kids Camp Manager and Lead Coach is responsible for the day-to-day operation of a specific camp program, ensuring the delivery of consistent, excellent, and safe camp experiences to all participants.
The Camp Manager and Lead Coach will lead a team of Bike Coaches at their assigned camp each week. The Camp Manager and Lead Coach will be the point of contact and liaison for site partners, vendors, and campers' families.
The Camp Manager and Lead Coach reports to the Regional Camp Director.
This is a seasonal position, starting in early June and continuing through the end of camp season in August, with some pre-camp season responsibilities and training in May. Our expectation is that you will be present for at least 6-7 weeks of the camp season. You will be asked to provide availability immediately upon hiring and will be committed to the scheduled weeks that you are leading a camp.
Qualifications:
- Leadership experience in youth programs or education (coaching, camps, classroom teacher) - 2+ years, including managing inexperienced and young staff members
- Track record of success leading groups of children as a coach, teacher, instructor, or equivalent
- Cycling interest and experience is a big plus - basic familiarity with bike operation and maintenance (or a willingness to learn!)
- Bachelors degree or college-bound strongly preferred (in process works!)
- Training and certifications in First Aid, CPR, camp administration, and youth coaching are a big plus
- Must be able to pass all required background checks and fingerprinting: CJIS, CPS, Maryland Department of Education, etc.
- Able to lift 30+ pounds, work outdoors in the heat, run and bike with campers
- Strong verbal and written communications to different audiences - staff, parents, site partners, etc.
- Demonstrate impeccable judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making under pressure

Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Staffing and Personnel Duties
- Team member role management and optimization - assigning specific duties and roles to coach team at camp each day
- Performance management and coaching with team members
- Work with Regional Director to address performance issues and staffing needs
- Program Management Duties
- Serve as the on-site point of contact for site partners and vendors
- Coordination of daily and weekly camp special activities
- Ensure curriculum and instructional methods are followed
- Risk Management - safety and security of campers and staff, compliance to PPK, site, and state specific policies
- Financial Management
- Expense reimbursement, camper counts for invoices, and tracking retail sales
- On-site contact for the head office
- Communications
- Point of contact for site partner communications
- Customer service: first point of contact with campers' caregivers and parents
- Communicate with the head office to ensure appropriate communications are sent to families
- Equipment and Supplies Management
- Pre-camp preparation, packing, and post-camp breakdown - as needed for specific locations
- Weekly needs assessment and supply replenishment request
- Ensure equipment safety and repair needs
- Lead Coach
- Lead Learn to Ride, Learn to Ride 2 and Bike Adventure Camps using PedalPower Kids proprietary methods, schedules, etc.
- Follow consistent daily schedule, incorporating welcome activities, instruction, practice, games, snacks, crafts, etc.
- Motivate, encourage, and excite campers - responsible for keeping the vibes positive and encouraging
- Strategize and develop activities for campers needing more assistance
- Ensure appropriate equipment is being used - bike safety checks and sizing, daily helmet checks, etc.
- Celebrate wins, recognize grit and tenacity, and find ways to connect and build trust with all kinds of campers
- Lead the Weekly Bike Parade celebration for families
- Collaboration with Regional Director (Supervisor) and the head office's weekly management meetings
