Ogro is seeking to hire a COBOL Specialist/Mainframe Programmer Analyst to join our technical team in supporting our Federal Government Contracts on the mainframe application development team. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting COBOL programs in a mainframe environment, working on critical, legacy business applications, collaborating with cross-functional teams to modernize systems, enhance performance, and ensure 24/7 reliability.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Development & Maintenance: write, code, test, debug, and document COBOL programs and procedures

  • System Analysis: Analyze business requirements to determine the scope of changes, providing estimates of work effort and creating technical specifications

  • Production Support: Monitor, troubleshoot, and fix bugs in existing applications, often providing on-call support

  • Database Management: Utilize DB2, SQL, or VSAM to manage data, performing data mapping and conversion tasks

  • Documentation: Maintain technical documentation for systems, ensuring compliance with coding standards and change management policies

  • Modernization: Assist with integrating legacy COBOL systems with modern technologies and cloud platforms


Required Technical Skills


  • A strong proficiency in COBOL (various dialects), JCL (Job Control Language), and SQL

  • Hands-on experience working in a mainframe environment

  • A strong knowledge of debugging using various tools such as Xpediter, File-Aid, Agend-AID, or other debugging tools

  • A complete understanding of Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall development methodologies


Qualifications & Experience


  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field

  • 3-5 years of experience in mainframe application development and maintenance

  • Practical analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team
