Job Description
The Dental Assistant supports the lead dentist in general dentistry and oral surgery settings, providing patient care and clinical assistance for preventive, restorative, and surgical procedures. This role helps maintain efficient operatory flow, accurate patient records, and high standards of safety and infection control.
Place of Performance
On-site in the Health Services Department at FCI Marion, 4500 Prison Rd, Marion, IL 62959
Schedule
8 hours per day, 5 days per week w/ a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Mon-Fri (except Federal Holidays) between the hours of 7 am and 4 pm. 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for preventive, restorative, and surgical procedures.
- Provide chairside assistance during dental treatments.
- Sterilize instruments and maintain infection control standards.
- Support dental radiography and follow radiation safety practices.
- Set up and break down operatories for scheduled procedures.
- Maintain accurate patient records and dental charts.
- Coordinate patient appointments and support efficient scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in dental assisting.
- Training from a licensed dentist and/or certification from an accredited school
- Completion of a dental assisting program or certificate.
- Radiation safety certification.
- CPR certification.
- Knowledge of dental radiography, infection control, and instrument sterilization.
- Experience with dental charting and four-handed dentistry.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
Pay & Benefits
$20.05 per hour w/ an additional $5.09 per hour for Health and Welfare. Think of it as $25.14 per hour. 11 paid Federal Holidays, earn up to 56 hours of Sick Leave per year, and up to (2) two weeks of paid vacation after one (1) year of service.
