Essential Functions include but not limited to the following:

General Duties

  • Supervise all racquet play
  • Supervise proper charging of court fees and other privilege fees
  • Supervise the rental of club equipment and the maintenance thereof.
  • Provide competent instruction for all groups and levels of players.
  • Supervise the operation of a player handicapping and rating system such as Tencap or the National Tennis Rating Program at such times and to the extent needed.
  • Supervise competent personnel such as head pro, entry level racquet staff, shop personnel, maintenance staff, etc, in the performance of their duties.
  • Enforce all the club’s rules and regulations governing the use of the club, its equipment and other property.
  • Maintain close relationships with the other club professionals
  • Devote a reasonable number of hours to playing with members regardless of their excellence; such play is not to be considered a playing lesson.
  • Plan events or “Racquet evenings” to promote tennis and/or pickleball fellowship in the club.
  • Prepare clinics, films, fun playing events or educational programs/demonstrations, etc, for such events.
  • Represent the club in professional tennis activities, including meetings of the national and/or local division of USPTA and in tournaments such as Pro-Ams with members, as well as state or national events as time will permit, with the approval from the Vice President or General Manager.

Tournaments

  • Meet with the Tournament Committee Chairperson and Event chairperson for the purpose of preparing and planning the details of tennis events in writing.
  • Secure adequate support personnel for various aspects of tournament events (publicity, umpires, etc.).
  • Coordinate match schedules.
  • Ensure all facilities are ready for events.
  • Secure draw sheets, scorecards and other such items necessary for respective tournaments.
  • Prepare and distribute event information sheets (entry blanks) for participants.
  • Coordinate with the club on the use of other departmental amenities by participants (food, etc.).
  • Be available for rules decisions and other necessary coordination throughout the event.
  • Prepare post-tournament reports with details of the events.

Programs

  • Ensure programs are in place at the club to service the entire membership (juniors, adults, seniors, etc.).
  • Provide beginning through advanced instruction to enhance broad-based member participation.
  • Provide educational opportunities for the entire membership so that they can understand and enjoy tennis & pickleball.
  • Provide guidance to the Tennis Committee and Pickleball Committee.
  • Help in the preparation of the annual calendar of racquet activities for the club.
  • Prepare annual budget for the responsible operation of the racquet facilities.

Maintenance

  • Inspect the courts/facilities daily prior to the start of play and ascertain that all necessary maintenance has been performed.
  • Be certain that necessary personnel for the maintenance and upkeep of the club are aware of any maintenance issues that need attention.
  • Make certain that the necessary equipment for the maintenance and upkeep of the club is on hand and properly maintained.
  • Keep the Vice President and/or General Manager informed on the status of the club and equipment for the purpose of budgeting for replacement and repair items.
  • Ascertain that all areas of the facility are always neat and clean.

Tennis Pro Shop Operations

  • Keep the pro shop stocked and organized, and the office in clean and presentable condition.
  • Maintain hours of operation of the pro shop agreed upon by management.
  • Maintain tennis and pickleball merchandise at a reasonable level commensurate with members’ needs.
  • Provide necessary coordination with the club accounting system to ensure smooth billing operation.
