About the Role
Biz2Credit seeks a commercial collections attorney with experience in breach of contract, bankruptcy and creditor’s rights matters, focused primarily on collections cases arising from the company’s SME commercial financing business. This position requires a highly motivated and organized individual with at least 5 years of experience. New York or New Jersey license is required. This is a full-time position offering competitive compensation and benefits.
Responsibilities
- Manage cases through their full life cycle, ranging from pre-litigation disputes to litigation and judgment enforcement efforts, and advise on strategy and the resolution of matters.
- Collaborate with outside counsel to manage all aspects of litigation, including litigation and settlement strategy in pending matters, and provide updates to key internal stakeholders.
- Work with the team to implement the litigation strategy.
- Develop case strategies and handle discovery requests, third-party subpoenas and court filings.
- Analyze legal, business, and underwriting aspects of cases.
- Work cross-functionally with company teams to mitigate litigation risk and ensure compliance with litigation and regulatory obligations.
- Negotiate settlements at all stages.
- Exercise a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of litigation experience post law school in bankruptcy and judgment enforcement.
- JD from a recognized US Law School. Qualification to practice law and membership in good standing in the bar of at least one state (NY or NJ preferred).
- Experience working in the creditor’s rights and understanding of commercial financing contracts.;
- Experience working with files cases in bankruptcy.
- Team player with strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Results-driven lawyer who works independently and takes initiative and ownership of deliverables.
- Ability to manage large caseloads and work under pressure.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering success while exercising good judgment.
- Analytical with attention to detail.
- High degree of organizational awareness, ability to connect the dots to understand all the interdependencies and big picture.
