Job DescriptionPosition Summary
We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server installation, configuration, performance tuning, and high availability solutions. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience deploying SQL Server in virtualized environments, designing server specifications, and maintaining secure, highly available, and optimized database systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server instances across development, test, and production environments
- Design and implement SQL Server Availability Groups and other high-availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions
- Develop server hardware and infrastructure specifications for SQL workloads (CPU, memory, storage, IOPS planning)
- Deploy and manage SQL Server in virtualized environments
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to optimize SQL performance in VMware environments (VMware experience a plus)
- Design, implement, monitor, and test database backup and recovery strategies
- Perform regular database maintenance (index maintenance, integrity checks, patching, upgrades)
- Monitor and optimize database and query performance
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks at the database and server levels
- Implement and maintain database security best practices
- Provide capacity planning and growth forecasting
- Support development teams with query tuning and schema optimization
- Maintain documentation for database environments, configurations, and processes
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments
- Strong experience installing and configuring SQL Server (2016+ preferred)
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server Availability Groups
- Experience managing SQL Server in virtualized environments
- Strong knowledge of database backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies
- Advanced T-SQL skills and query optimization expertise
- Experience with server performance tuning (CPU, memory, storage)
- Ability to create and define server specifications for SQL workloads
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with VMware virtualization platforms
- Knowledge of SQL Server licensing models and cost optimization strategies
- Experience with monitoring tools and performance analysis
- Familiarity with automation and scripting (PowerShell a plus)
- Understanding of infrastructure best practices and enterprise architecture
