Step into a specialized teaching environment where your expertise will make a meaningful difference in the lives of elementary students requiring significant academic and functional supports. This contract opportunity places you in a self-contained Alternate Learning/Life Skills classroom working with a manageable caseload of 10 students in grades K-5. Supported by two dedicated paraprofessionals, you will create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning space tailored to diverse student needs—including intellectual disabilities, Autism, TBI, and medically complex conditions.
Qualifications:
- Active Texas Special Education Certification
- EC-6 Certification required
- Experience supporting students with significant academic and functional needs is preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students, focusing on both academic and life skills goals
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessional staff, therapists, and families to promote student achievement and well-being
- Adapt instruction to meet a wide range of learning styles and abilities within a small classroom environment
- Foster a supportive, inclusive atmosphere that encourages student engagement and growth
- Monitor progress, collect data, and adjust instruction as needed to ensure positive outcomes
Position Details:
- Contract position with an immediate start date through May 27, 2027
- Full-time schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:15 AM to 3:15 PM (30-minute unpaid lunch), totaling 37.5 hours per week
