Position Summary:
The Fiber Optics Groundman supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground and aerial fiber optic cable infrastructure. This position plays a key role in preparing job sites, loading and unloading equipment, and assisting linemen and technicians in the field. The Groundman is essential to ensuring that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the setup and cleanup of job sites, including traffic control and site preparation

Hand tools and materials to linemen and technicians as needed

Excavate, trench, and backfill for underground fiber installations

Pull and route fiber optic cable through conduit or overhead systems
-
Operate and maintain construction equipment (e.g., trenchers, compactors, hand tools) under supervision

Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment

Ensure job site cleanliness and safety at all times

Follow all safety policies and procedures, including OSHA regulations and company guidelines

Assist with flagging and traffic control when needed

Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Crew Leader
Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
-
Previous experience in utility construction or fiber optic installation is a plus

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
-
Physically fit; capable of lifting 50+ pounds, digging, and working on uneven terrain

Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including some weekends

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record preferred

Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team

Strong work ethic and safety-first mindset
Work Environment:

Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions

Exposure to noise, dust, and construction equipment

May involve standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods
