Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent

FLSA Status: non-exempt

Pay Grade: 02

Pay Range: Min: $11.50 per hour. Max: $14.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Greenskeeper is responsible for performing routine and specialized manual labor tasks involved in the daily maintenance and care of the golf course turf, greens, fairways, tees, bunkers, and surrounding landscapes. This role ensures the course remains in optimal playing condition while adhering to established agronomic practices, safety standards, and environmental regulations. The Greenskeeper works as part of a team under the direction of the Superintendent to support the overall aesthetic and functional quality of the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs mowing of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and other turf areas using walk-behind, riding, or reel mowers to maintain specified heights and patterns.
  2. Rakes, edges, and maintains sand bunkers; repairs divots and ball marks on playing surfaces.
  3. Operates irrigation systems, monitors soil moisture levels, and performs hand watering as needed.
  4. Operates and performs basic maintenance on equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, tractors, utility vehicles, and sprayers.
  5. Assists with course setup for daily play, tournaments, and special events.
  6. Identifies and reports turf issues such as pests, diseases, weeds, or drainage problems.
  7. Performs general landscaping duties, including pruning, planting, mulching, and debris removal.
  8. Plants, trims, and cares for trees and shrubs.
  9. Wear and maintain all safety clothing and equipment as required.
  10. Cleans equipment and work areas daily.
  11. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with staff and property owners.
  12. May be required to drive POA vehicle or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must be able to work weekends, holidays and overtime and must be 18 years old or older. Must have a valid driver’s license to operate any POA vehicle.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Previous experience in golf course maintenance, landscaping, or groundskeeping preferred. Basic knowledge of turfgrass management and agronomic principles is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to safely operate powered grounds maintenance equipment. Understanding of safe handling and application of chemicals (training provided). Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills to report issues and follow instructions.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, sun). Work involves early morning starts, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime. Exposure to noise, vibration, chemicals, and moving machinery; personal protective equipment (PPE) provided and required.
