Job Title: Irrigation Foreman

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Position Status: Full-Time

Department: Facilities & Infrastructure



Position Summary

The Irrigation Foreman is responsible for overseeing the planning, installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems across Walla Walla Nursery Co. operations. This position supervises a team of irrigation technicians and laborers, ensuring optimal water management and system performance throughout nursery production areas and facilities.

As part of Walla Walla Nurserys unique in-house operations, this role may also serve in a hybrid capacity, assisting with product delivery during peak shipping seasons. The Irrigation Foreman and their team support the nurserys fleet operations by maintaining readiness to drive or assist with transportation tasks when operational demand increases.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, schedule, and supervise daily activities of the irrigation crew to ensure efficient and high-quality work performance.

  • Oversee installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems including overhead, drip, micro-sprayer, and drainage systems.

  • Interpret site plans and assist in irrigation layout design and implementation.

  • Conduct regular system inspections, pressure checks, and preventative maintenance to ensure system reliability and efficiency.

  • Maintain detailed records of system repairs, water schedules, and material usage.

  • Coordinate with the Facilities Manager to plan projects, forecast materials, and manage parts and inventory.

  • Ensure proper operation and safe use of equipment such as excavators, tractors, and RTVs.

  • Promote and enforce safe work practices and compliance with company policies and safety standards.

  • Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members to develop their technical skills and operational performance.

  • Support nursery logistics by operating company vehicles, including delivery trucks, during high-volume shipping periods.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support facility and irrigation operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school training in irrigation, agriculture, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of irrigation installation and maintenance experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role.

  • Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, water management, and system components.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and irrigation schematics.

  • Effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Valid drivers license required; CDL Class A License preferred.

  • Ability to safely operate heavy machinery and delivery vehicles as needed.



Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods. Work is primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat and cold extremes.



Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of irrigation crew members and seasonal support staff.
