FLSA Status: Non - Exempt (overtime eligible)
Reports to: Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or designee.
Regular Shift: Monday – Friday; 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Pay Rate: $28.76 per hour.

Position Summary
The Engineer Helper is responsible for providing general maintenance and unskilled labor tasks. Additionally, this role will support the maintenance and repair of building systems, under supervision, in support of building operations at a large commercial facility in Washington, DC. This role provides essential support to the Engineering Department and is integral in providing general maintenance and supporting the repair, maintenance, restoration, and replacement of various building operational components.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide general maintenance as directed by the Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or designee.
- Work may include, but is not limited to:
- Lamp replacement (interior/exterior).
- Changing filters.
- Other unskilled tasks as directed.
- This role performs helper-level tasks and does not independently perform work requiring licensure/certification unless properly qualified and specifically assigned.
- Assist engineering staff under supervision of engineer or mechanic, to include (but not limited to) the following building systems: (List below is included to align with CBA task responsibility. Specific assignment will be in accordance with employee’s CBA classification, qualifications, licensure, training, and safety requirements.)
- Boilers, accessories, and appurtenances.
- All fired or unfired pressure vessels and vacuum systems.
- All refrigeration and air conditioning machinery and their associated equipment.
- All plumbing and piping including water, gas, heating, steam and sanitation systems.
- All electrical appliances and fixtures including lamping.
- All emergency power equipment.
- All electric motors, generators, circuits, and switchgear.
- All machinery and equipment used in the production and for the health and comfort of the Employer’s or client’s business and personnel.
- All equipment under the supervision of the Chief Engineer.
- Energy management systems including all related software and hardware in conjunction with or absence of third-party energy management contracts.
- Respond to service calls, tenant requests, and work orders in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain tools, materials, and equipment in safe and efficient operating condition.
- Support preventive maintenance and general facility upkeep programs.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and company policies while performing assigned tasks.
- Provide documentation of completed work in CMMS or other reporting systems as required which may include notes, photos, instructions etc. as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Required:
- Ability to read and interpret work orders and equipment manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting, time-management, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Preferred:
- Accredited training in a trade or building operations specific field. (i.e. vocational school, NAPE classes etc.
- 2 – 3 years of relevant building maintenance experience.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and drawings.
- Familiarity with safe work practices, OSHA standards, and proper use of PPE.

Work Conditions
- Full-time, on-site role in Washington, DC.
- Standard schedule Monday–Friday, with potential for occasional overtime or after-hours support as required.
- Work may involve standing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and using various hand and power tools.
