Maintenance Technician

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Maintenance Technician supports port and terminal operations by performing preventive and corrective maintenance on automated production systems, marine terminal equipment, and facility infrastructure. This role is responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting the safe and efficient movement of cargo through the terminal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automated production line equipment, including:
- Motors, gearboxes, and conveyor systems
- Bucket elevators and material handling systems
- Sensors and PLC-controlled systems
- Robotic and automated equipment, including robotic arms
- Perform maintenance and repairs on terminal equipment, including:
- Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes
- Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes
- Reach stackers, top loaders, forklifts, and front-end loaders
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimize operational downtime
- Inspect and maintain terminal infrastructure, including lighting, power systems, and related facilities
- Conduct routine safety inspections and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and inspection reports
- Coordinate with operations teams to schedule maintenance activities without disrupting cargo flow
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and startup of new automated production lines and equipment
- Support ongoing upgrades, retrofits, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures and participate in safety programs
- Assist supervisors and team members as needed, including support during vessel operations
EDUCATION and/or WORK EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred
- 2+ years of experience in production line maintenance, industrial maintenance, or similar environment required
- Hands-on experience working with:
- Motors, gearboxes, and conveyor systems
- Bucket elevators and bulk material handling equipment
- Sensors and PLC systems
- Automated and robotic equipment (preferred)
- Experience with heavy/mobile equipment such as forklifts and front-end loaders preferred
- Basic knowledge of PLC troubleshooting and automated systems
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, and diagrams
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office and maintenance systems)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must have or be eligible to obtain a TWIC
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to safely perform all essential job functions in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and applicable regulations
- Ability to lift, carry, and work with heavy equipment and tools
- Comfortable working in an industrial port environment, including heights, confined spaces, and outdoor conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods
- Must maintain regular and reliable attendance
