Client Overview:
Our client operates one of the world's largest energy delivery systems. Their electric, gas, and steam service now provides energy for the 10 million people who live in New York City and Westchester County. Currently, they are looking to add a LAN Systems Administrator to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$55/hr - $60/hr
Position Overview:
The LAN Systems Administrator is responsible for the technical and administrative support of the Distribution Control Center. They maintain the configuration, readiness, availability, and reliable operation of computer endpoint systems within the Control Center Environment. The LAN Systems Administrator ensures that the uptime, performance, resources, and security of the computers they manage meet the needs of the clients. This LAN Systems Administrator operates alongside the Control Center personnel to support overall system readiness to meet the company's operational requirements. This is a 2-year contract.
Responsibilities of the LAN Systems Administrator:
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and software systems.
- Perform routine system updates, patches, and upgrades.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal functionality.
- Assist in managing and troubleshooting network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Help maintain network security protocols and access controls.
- Collaborate with Senior Administrators to optimize network performance and reliability.
- Provide technical support to end-users by troubleshooting hardware and software problems.
- Datacenter gatekeeping: Monitor UPS power and cooling units, report system alarms and issues. Work with vendors to schedule preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Assist in setting up and configuring user accounts, email, and access permissions.
- Collaborate with the IT helpdesk to resolve user issues in a timely manner.
- Assist in implementing and managing backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Perform routine data backups and ensure data integrity.
- Participate in disaster recovery drills and testing.
- Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Required Experience/Skills for the LAN Systems Administrator:
- Experience in preparing and conducting presentations.
- Experience with imaging desktops/workstations/laptops.
- Must be proficient in PowerShell. Desktop/workstations/laptop administration skills, including low-level operating system troubleshooting skills.
- Must be well organized, detail-oriented, and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Experience with ticket queue systems like Service Now.
- Demonstrated analytical skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills and communications.
- Experience with imaging, preparing, and deploying desktop workstations.
- Must be proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Desktop Operating System administration.
- Must be proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Server Operating System administration.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
- Must be proficient in PowerShell.
- Cybersecurity certifications.
- Understanding Networking Fundamentals.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related work experience. Demonstrated work experience in a related Information Technology field is required, or
- Associate's degree with equivalent technical certification and four (4) years of related work experience. Demonstrated work experience in a related Information Technology field is required.
