About the Role:
As a Lifeguard at the OAHE Family YMCA, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons in and around the aquatic facilities. Your primary responsibility will be to monitor activities in the pool area, providing immediate assistance in case of emergencies and enforcing safety rules to prevent accidents. You will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment, conducting regular safety checks, and ensuring that all equipment is in proper working order. Additionally, you will engage with patrons to promote a positive and welcoming atmosphere, encouraging safe swimming practices. Ultimately, your vigilance and proactive approach will contribute to a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors to the YMCA aquatic facilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proficient swimmer able to meet the minimum requirements of a Red Cross certified lifeguard, including:
- Minimum age of 15-years-old
- Swim 300 yards
- Tread water for two minutes using only the legs
- Timed brick retrieval from a minimum depth of seven feet
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working as a lifeguard or in a similar role.
- Additional certifications in water safety or swim instruction.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor pool activities to ensure the safety of all swimmers and patrons.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, providing first aid and rescue assistance as needed.
- Enforce pool rules and regulations to maintain a safe environment.
- Conduct regular safety checks of the pool area and equipment.
- Engage with patrons to promote safe swimming practices and provide excellent customer service.
Skills:
The required skills for this position include strong observational abilities, allowing you to monitor pool activities effectively and identify potential hazards. Excellent communication skills are essential for interacting with patrons and enforcing safety rules in a friendly manner. Physical fitness is crucial, as the role may require quick responses and the ability to perform rescues. Preferred skills, such as experience in swim instruction, can enhance your ability to engage with patrons and provide valuable guidance. Overall, a combination of vigilance, communication, and physical readiness will ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors.
Training:
CPR and Lifeguard trainings are available through the YMCA.

Flexible shifts available between 5:45 AM and 9:00 PM Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Saturday, and 11:45 AM and 5:00 PM Sunday.
