Supervisor: Director of Diversion Services



Job Summary:The SUD Specialist works as part of a team to provide behavioral health services, skills training, and community support for individuals in service at Community House. This position has a primary focus in Diversion Services working with our (4) forensic programs including OCRP; FPATH; FHARPS and LINC. This position is responsible for running SUD support groups, assisting clients in connecting with outside agencies for SUD detox and treatment as needed, and providing support, training, and interventions for staff appropriate to their credential to better support clients with substance use issues within varying behavioral health treatment settings.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Serve as SUD Specialist for Diversion Services, where mental health treatment, case management, and housing are the main focus of programs
  • Advocate for and coordinate individuals needs and services; contributing to Service Plans, Crisis Plans, and other documentation maintained by the Primary Case Manager; and providing consistent contacts and support to work towards goals
  • Coordinate with relevant internal and external departments to coordinate referrals to SUD treatment
  • Collaborate with care team to ensure clients access needed treatment, support, case management, and appointments, including transportation to external providers
  • Ensure all interactions represent the five principles of trauma-informed care, including safety, choice, trustworthiness, collaboration, and empowerment
  • Actively participate in program weekly and medical provider meetings and complete associated documentation, as able based on timing and location
  • Complete daily documentation in electronic medical record on client interactions, and other required documentation, ensuring all services and support provided to clients in this position are documented in a timely manner
  • Practice good financial stewardship of agency and contract resources, including how time is being spent, supplies are used, property is being maintained, etc.
  • Meet identified key performance indicators and metrics for the position as identified for the program, division, and agency
  • Participate in discharge planning and written summaries of treatment as needed for client referral and releases of information
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention and resolution as needed
  • Always maintain client and staff confidentiality



The SUD Specialist various teams to provide high standards of care within programs, including but not limited to:

  • Completing assigned work related to maintaining and adhering to licensing responsibilities, such as Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) and Department of Health (DOH), as assigned by supervisor
  • Coordinating care, such as scheduling, attending, and/or arranging transportation for appointments and other case management needs
  • Maintaining, and documenting in, client charts following agency, county, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Facilitating regular group and individual activities, encounters, and specialized client events, such as outings and holiday gatherings
  • Assisting in admission and discharge planning per supervisor direction
  • Attending all scheduled meetings and supervisions
  • Performing other duties as assigned



Basic Qualifications

  1. Hold active Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) credential, though services and billing will not be completed under this credential
  2. Hold Agency Affiliated Counselor credential with Washington Department of Health within 30 days of hire and obtain and maintain registration and/or licensure
  3. Successfully pass criminal background check before hire date
  4. Hold a valid license for 1 year with clean driving record to use agency vehicles
  5. Have legible handwriting and ability to do simple mathematics
  6. Able to navigate and comprehend charts in electronic medical record
  7. Able to work independently and within a team
  8. Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  9. Able to perform duties outlined above within reasonable accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prior experience with dual diagnosis population in treatment setting
  2. Bachelors degree in social sciences or related field
