Location: San Francisco, CA
Salary Range: $80,000 – $92,000
Schedule: Full-time (37.5 – 40 hours/week); hybrid eligibility after 90 days

Direct Counsel is working with a well-established, California-based law firm to find an experienced Litigation Legal Secretary to join its San Francisco office. This is a high-priority role supporting two senior attorneys in the firm’s Litigation and Labor & Employment Practice Groups. The ideal candidate brings a strong litigation background, discretion with sensitive subject matter, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and litigation support to two senior associates

  • Manage attorney calendars, including court deadlines, depositions, and meetings

  • Draft, revise, and format legal documents for filing in state and federal courts

  • Handle e-filing procedures, discovery, and trial preparation (including exhibits and courtroom visuals)

  • Schedule and coordinate with court reporters, expert witnesses, and couriers

  • Input time entries, review and edit billing, prepare expense reports

  • Maintain client files and perform periodic file audits for archival

  • Screen calls, process mail, manage emails and faxes

  • Deliver professional, confidential client service both in person and by phone

  • Support firm attorneys with ad hoc administrative needs

Requirements

  • 7–10 years of experience as a litigation legal secretary in a law firm setting

  • Strong knowledge of federal and California state court filing procedures, including e-filing

  • Familiarity with AAA, JAMS, and other arbitration/mediation filing requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent drafting, proofreading, and document formatting skills

  • Strong communication and organizational abilities

  • High attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines independently

  • Professional demeanor, with discretion in handling confidential material

  • Typing speed of at least 50 wpm

Additional Info

  • This is an on-site position for the first 90 days, with the option to move to a hybrid schedule (4 days in-office / 1 day remote) afterward.
