Job Description:\n\nPOSITION SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision, acts as Security Supervisor oversees security staff and promotes a safe and secure environment of IVHD. Provides leadership and ensures compliance with quality service goals, services standards as well as following policies/procedures to ensure the effective and efficient operations of the security management program. Participates in departmental budget planning and monitoring. Required to manage the scheduling day-to-day work activity and conduct timely evaluations. Maintains daily document reviews to ensure all incident reports and daily activity reports are completed, thorough and grammatically correct. Oversight of employee/department equipment to ensure it is serviceable and well maintained. Ensures monthly/annual training compliance and attendance are within department/hospital standards and issues appropriate disciplinary action as needed. Provides on the job training to new security personnel. Assists with presentations of various security training programs, as needed. Demonstrates familiarity with the job functions of Security and provides support as needed. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Manages the daily operation of security staff.Reviews and approves all requests for leave. Prepares schedules to provide appropriate coverage within budget constraints. Works independently handling a wide variety of security related incidents taking appropriate steps as needed. Participates in the development and updating of standards, policies, and procedures Prepares or reviews written reports on security related incidents including fire, crime, hazardous conditions and emergency situations to ensure compliance and departmental documentation requirements.Questions witnesses and principals in documentation incidents reported on IVHD property. Performs preliminary investigations pertaining to any felony, misdemeanor, or incidents of injury.Provides liaison with Law Enforcement personnel and outside contract securityDevelops and maintains effective patrol strategies based on department activity data and locations of criminal activity.Contributes management support in the departmental budget process and long term range planning, organizing and directing security operations.Prepares and conducts annual performance evaluations, including communicating the employee performance results and required improvements. Performs corrective or disciplinary action in consultation with Human Resources.Conducts and assures staff attendance to staff and mandatory meetings/functions. Performs job duties of a Security Guard: Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards.Patrols hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and intruders.Monitors conduct of visitors on hospital premises; makes contact with unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.Reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel, students and visitors; assists in providing restraints of patients as needed.Escorts personnel to parking lots and hospital buildings.Participates in investigations; maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities.Secures patient valuables or lost and found articles; maintains logs of items received.Controls parking and traffic flow; enforces parking regulations.Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.Maintains department records, reports and files as required.Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.Attends meetings as required.Maintains physical fitness requirements. In order to do so, you must be at the work site during hours of operation. Salaried/Exempt management is responsible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On occasions, you will be called upon to fill in for other managers or for staff who are absent from work. In those cases there will be NO additional compensation for hours worked beyond what may be a typical work period. You are expected to behave ethically and morally at all times. TIMEKEEPING Management is directly responsible for overseeing the attendance and timekeeping of their staff. This responsibility cannot be delegated. EVALUATING PERFORMANCE Evaluate the performance of your staff on an on-going basis. This is not simply an annual event.Employees should be informed immediately if they are “under -performing” at any time. COACHING Celebrate, recognize and reward individual and team success that model IVHD’s values. Provide regular learning opportunities to develop individual talents, and increase team effectiveness. Invest time and collect and provide balanced and meaningful feedback on performance; encourage personal and professional growth. Employees who are behaving inappropriately at work or are under performing in the technical aspects of their jobs should be coached immediately and told what they need to do to get back to standard and remain employed. FINANCE One of the most important management tasks is the creation and adherence to an annual budget. Your performance in this regard is a large part of your overall responsibility and critical to your longevity with the Medical Center. You are reminded that you are responsible for public funds. They must be managed wisely and prudently at all times. Mismanagement of public funds carries with it the harshest of penalties, including termination. A pattern of over spending your operating budget is one example of mismanagement. Our Medical Center is challenged with operating on a very thin margin, so it is imperative that both income and spending are managed exceptionally well. Nothing less can be tolerated by our Board of Directors or our public. Licensure Experience Three (3) years progressive supervisory experience in security or security related field, such as corrections, law enforcement, or military. Experience in healthcare/ higher education. Other Training – MANDATORY REQUIREMENT Must ANNUALLY take and pass IVHD physical agility test in addition to pre-employment physical (Exhibit A) AND 1)Complete IAHSS supervisory certification within 6 months of hire, 2) Vistelar De/Non Escalation training, 3) Completed advanced Security Annual Exam, 4) Maintain 16 hours of ongoing leadership classes annually. Professional Certification CA BSIS Security Guard Card Special SKILLS MUST be able to work various hours based on business needs including nights, weekends, holidays. Proficient with MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel Demonstrated public speaking skills, and the ability to lead training courses.
