Job Description

Job DescriptionDescription:

Join Aleshire & Wynder, LLP for a Dynamic Summer Law Clerk Experience

Aleshire & Wynder, LLP is a California-based law firm with more than 60 attorneys dedicated to serving public agencies. With offices in Fresno, Irvine, Oakland, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, and Westlake Village, we offer a unique and rewarding 8–10 week Summer Law Clerk Program that provides real-world legal experience grounded in public law.

Who We Serve:

We represent a broad range of municipal clients—including cities, water districts, and housing authorities—providing comprehensive services such as:

  • City Attorney counsel
  • Transactional services (contract reviews, ordinance and resolution preparation, agenda drafting)
  • Litigation in areas including premises liability, CEQA, toxic torts, personal injury, labor and employment, code enforcement, unlawful detainers, cannabis law, appeals, and administrative writs.

Where You'll Work:

Law clerks will primarily be based in our Irvine office, with opportunities to rotate through our Riverside and Los Angeles offices. These rotations offer a broader view of our regional practice and help build lasting professional connections across the firm.

What You’ll Do:

Our hands-on program immerses clerks in all facets of public law practice, including:

  • Conducting legal research and drafting memoranda
  • Drafting ordinances, resolutions, and contracts
  • Preparing and reviewing case materials
  • Observing depositions, city council, and planning commission meetings
  • Attending internal trainings and topical legal presentations

You'll work closely with associates and partners, gaining firsthand exposure to the legal challenges faced by local governments—and seeing how your work makes a direct impact on the communities we serve.

How You’ll Grow:

Each law clerk is paired with an attorney mentor and receives ongoing feedback throughout the program. Your work product will be evaluated on quality and contribution to active matters, and these evaluations will be a key factor in post-program hiring decisions.

Looking Ahead:

Offer decisions for post-graduation employment are typically made in September/October, contingent on successful completion of the California Bar Exam. New attorneys generally have the flexibility to select the office location where they wish to work.

At Aleshire & Wynder, you’ll find a supportive, collegial environment that blends structured training with real-world experience—providing the tools, mentorship, and opportunities you need to launch a rewarding legal career in public law.
