Job Summary: The Field Mechanic Supervisor oversees the maintenance, repair, and performance of heavy equipment and machinery on job sites. This ensures efficiency in the field of mechanics and ensures that they are operating efficiently and safely. The supervisor is responsible for troubleshooting mechanical issues, oversight on equipment demobilization and mobilization, and coordinating with project managers and mechanic dispatch.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support field mechanics performing maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including excavators, dozer, haul trucks, drills, and loaders.
  • Schedule and assign repair tasks to field mechanics based on project needs and equipment availability.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessment on equipment issues and determine appropriate repairs ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Coordinate with equipment operators and job site leadership to ensure equipment uptime and updates on repaired machinery.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance logs, parts usage, and service schedules.
  • Oversee inventory of tools, parts, and fluids to ensure availability at job sites.
  • Endure that all safety protocols, PPE usage, and lockout/tagout procedures are followed.
  • Dispatch mechanics efficiently to address equipment issues.
  • Train and mentor mechanics in procedures, diagnostics, and safe work practices.
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns and emergency repair needs on the job site.
  • Participate in daily/weekly safety meetings and enforce compliance with all company and OSHA regulations.
  • Perform hands-on repairs if needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, diagnostic tools, and repair schematics.
  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a team under time-sensitive conditions.

Education and Experience:

  • Strong experience repairing and maintaining machinery required.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and fit for duty exam.
  • Minimum five years in the construction industry, preferably field mechanic or mechanic supervisor.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues safely and quickly.
  • Advance knowledge of hydraulics, motors, electrical systems, and equipment maintenance.
  • You must possess a valid driver's license. ID cards will not be accepted.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50-100 pounds regularly.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, climbing, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
  • Prolonged periods working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Manual dexterity and hearing require to safely operate tools and machinery.
