TerraSource Global, A Subsidiary of Astec Industries, is seeking a General Manager for our Raleigh, Illinois facility. The General Manager will aggressively develop and execute a strategy with four fundamental objectives, to improve productivity, to lower the cost of goods sold, to improve on-time delivery and to improve product quality. He/she will provide functional leadership in the development of the company's manufacturing processes and integrated supply chain program and will be an active participant in overall business planning. Despite the variety of responsibilities involved, the highest priority is safety.
- Team Development, Planning and Organization
- Directly collaborate with department managers in order to successfully meet customer expectations on a consistent basis. This will require coordination of inter-department work-products as it relates to meeting customer needs. Will also be required to work closely with other Department Heads to coordinate organizational objectives and team responses to customer needs.
- Aid executive management decision-making by providing appropriate business council and advisement.

- Evaluating Market Feedback and Making Strategic Decisions about Business

- Maintaining a pulse on manufacturing techniques and opportunities for improvement.
- Engaging with engineering on market feedback.
- Technical Design Review
- Participating and providing feedback during design reviews.
- Challenging engineering to value-engineer products to reduce costs and improve quality.
- Reviewing possible design substitutions and implications on performance, quality and cost.
- Shop Scheduling, Supply Chain and Production Oversight
- Oversight and management of the company's manufacturing activities.
- Will include the implementation of manufacturing standards, productivity standards, and labor utilization targets.
- Responsible for the careful evaluation of the flow of raw materials through the applicable manufacturing processes to ensure the least amount of waste is incorporated into each finished good.
- Further responsibility will focus on ensure proper job costing and issuance of raw materials in a timely and accurate manner.
- Working with production team to mitigate road-blocks.
- Inter-department liaison between groups.
- Communicating and managing toward monthly / quarterly budget expectations.
- Oversee the company's manufacturing and supply chain network, from Procurement to Manufacturing.
- Oversee the development of process sequences shall be such to achieve the lowest total cost of goods sold and total inventory as it relates to the organization's Days of Sales Inventory ("DSI").
- Provide leadership relative to the flow of incoming services and products relative to the "critical manufacturing path" for all products under manufacture.
- Provide leadership to the organization to ensure that all third-party resources are properly engaged and that transparent communication is in place.
- Work to maximize in and/or out-sourcing strategies that maximize organization-wide profitability.
- Will be responsible for the development, execution and administration of an inventory and sub-assembly stocking plan that maximizes the company's inventory turns (i.e. "DSI"), while at the same time minimizing the lead times associated with delivery of goods to customers and the total value of inventory maintained.
- Supporting inter-company engagement to achieve mutual team goals.
- Ensuring that Production continues to strive for top quality and full safety. Shall be responsible for enhancing the quality management program to reduce product and system warranty claims. Will take a lead role in developing and deploying product factory acceptance testing protocols.
- Deploy necessary strategies to increase operational through-put via targeted direct labor personnel, overtime, and/or additional shifts.
- Customer Development
- Project fire-fighting, as needed.
- Customer relations and PR management.
- Supporting needs of the sales team to ensure customer confidence is maintained.
- Sales / Quoting
- Maximize spare part / consumable / aftermarket revenues to achieve a target product mix exceeding 50%.
- Deploy strategies to eliminate product and spare part sales not meeting gross margin targets through price increases, cost reductions and/or product line retirement.
- Quote review to ensure technical specifications and gross margin targets are maintained.
- Reviewing of terms and conditions and engaging corporate when so needed.
- Reviewing shop loads to provide feedback on practical deliveries.
- Financial
- Be responsible for the control of the division's product costs, appropriate distribution of labor costs and analysis of invoices, inventory levels, materials and other supporting documentation.
- Oversee the accounting and costing function, HR and Procurement. Direct the development of standard product costs including raw materials, purchased parts, direct and indirect labor, and burden to ensure accurate costing of products.
- Reviewing shipped projects to assess achieved margins, reviewing root causes of where projects failed to meet expectations, and developing an action plan to mitigate.
- Developing budgets based on market conditions and business development manager expectations.
- Managing team size and overall operating expense relative to the established budgets.
- Understand operation break-even and manage monthly revenues to consistently exceed that break-even point.
- Responsible for evaluating current manufacturing techniques and methodologies and adjusting as required to achieve the lowest possible Cost of Goods Sold.
- Reporting
- Will be required to prepare a departmental strategic plan with short and long term manufacturing goals
- Will be required to prepare weekly departmental "hits and misses" reports.
- Monthly Recap Report, Monthly Performance data related to bookings and shipments (include margin performance and shipment on-time %), Quarterly Sales Forecast, continuous updates within Salesforce.
- Other Responsibilities
- Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job.
- Within the scope of the job requirements, will be required to adhere and comply with state and federal law, the Company ISO Quality Program and procedures, Company policies and Safety and Environmental Regulations.
- Regular travel is not required.
- May perform other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university is required, an Engineering, Accounting, Finance Business and/or Management degree strongly preferred.
- The person should have strong costing and analytical skills and MUST have capital equipment industry experience.
- Must have three to five years of experience in a manufacturing environment as a Senior Manager. Exposure to fabrication and manufacturing is important.
- Excellent MRP skill sets. Capable of operating within SAP or similar MRP platform.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Experience in dealing with senior level management of customers; with ability to relate to all levels of the customer's organization from mechanic to executive.
- Proven leadership skills. The ability to participate effectively in sales and business planning, and to arrive at sound decisions designed to produce effective results.
- Dynamic personality capable of implementing process and culture change in an organization without disrupting the well run parts of an organization.
- "Roll up the sleeves-get it done," action-oriented personality is essential.
- Ability to be an independent producer, and to work independently and efficiently in a nimble and diverse organization.
