Job DescriptionDescription:

Looking for a fun, caring, and creative direct support professional to be the live-in care provider (housemate) for a middle aged woman with a developmental disability in Scotts Valley. This individual strives to be independent and values her autonomy. At the same time, she enjoys spending time with her support staff by playing board games and going out into the community. This individual is a smoker (outside only) and partakes cannabis on an almost daily basis. She lives in an upstairs 2 bedroom 1 bathroom with laundry onsite and a carport that can be used for a housemate’s vehicle. A great fit for this role would be someone that can set healthy boundaries centered around the personal/housemate relationship.


DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL/HOUSEMATE POSITION JOB DESCRIPTION

Supported Living Services (SLS) provides support to adults with developmental disabilities who wish to receive support to live successfully in our community.


Qualifications / Education:

1 year of experience in a supported living environment or similar

18 years old or older

Authorized to work in the US


Housemate requirements:

  • Must be vaccinated
  • Must drive
  • Must be present within the home a minimum of 5 days per week
  • Work an agreed upon schedule (overnights and day shifts)

Qualifications include:

  • Satisfactory oral and written communication, math and computer skills
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent
  • A minimum of one year experience with adults who have developmental disabilities (or similar experience) is strongly preferred
  • The ability to maintain First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Position requires a valid California driver's license, a good driving record, and a registered and insured vehicle
  • Department of Justice level criminal background check
  • Familiarity with SLS programs

Responsibilities:

  • To provide training, instruction, and habilitation services to individuals in their own homes, neighborhoods and/or job sites. Under Facilitator guidance Community Support Staff provide support to individuals with challenges and/or needs, including: developmental disabilities, physical challenges, traumatic brain injury, and/or mental health support.

Duties:

Implement training and support services tailored to an individual.

Job functions:

The duties of this position also rely on an individual's ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate with others. This includes, but not limited to:

  • Participate in team meetings to discuss services
  • Provide input for program planning and implementation
  • Communicate with your Facilitator concerning services, training, etc.
  • Maintain necessary individual records and evaluations
  • Participate in development of support plans

Status:

Non-exempt, hourly position. The position is full time. As a Housemate you will be working an agreed upon schedule and eligible for benefits. Concurrent enrollment as an IHSS provider may be required.


Work Schedule:

Scheduled shifts are dependent on the needs of the person receiving support, in addition to the needs of the Facilitator.

Pay: $22.00 per hour and minimum wage for overnight/housemate hours
