Job Type: Contract (6 months)
Compensation: $60.00 - $90.00 per hour (W2)

About the Role
Our firm is supporting a major enterprise in the large scale retail and digital commerce industry as they expand their engineering team.
Were looking for a Java Backend Engineer to help build and deliver high-quality backend services that support a modern, microservices-based architecture. This role is hands-onideal for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, collaborating across teams, and shipping reliable code in a fast-moving Agile environment.
What Youll Do
- Develop and test backend services that align with business strategies and product goals
- Build new features from the product backlog and size user stories with accuracy
- Write clean, well-tested code using TDD and maintain strong unit test coverage
- Create automated test scripts and support full testing lifecycle activities
- Validate deliverables against acceptance criteria and user story requirements
- Document technical designs, decisions, and project artifacts as needed
- Collaborate closely with product, infrastructure, security, and other engineering teams
- Follow modern Agile engineering best practices (iterative development, user stories, sprints)
Key Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of professional engineering experience with a strong Java/JVM development background.
- Proven experience building microservices in distributed systems
- Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming/messaging platforms
- Solid knowledge of RDBMS (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases
- Strong commitment to test-driven development and automated testing
- 1+ years working in a Scrum/Agile environment
- Scrum certification is a plus
