Scott Rotary Seals (SRS) of Olean, NY is looking to hire a full time Design Engineer to join our team.
SRS is a highly technical, custom manufacturer of Babbitt bearings. The Design Engineer is responsible for entire project cycle including design, development, and project completion for routine and moderately complex babbitt bearings.
Job Duties of a Design Engineer
- Perform all necessary calculations such as stress analysis, pressure drop and flow analysis, and performance analysis.
- Serve as a direct point of contact for customers, engaging with them on engineering design matters, addressing questions or concerns, and collaborating to solve problems effectively.
- Collaborate with clients during the design for manufacturability process, ensuring designs meet performance requirements while being optimized for cost- effective production.
- Prepare and present preliminary design proposals with supporting documentation, balancing technical rigor with clarity for stakeholders.
- Act as a liaison between Engineering and Manufacturing, resolving design/manufacturing challenges and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner with production teams to identify cost-reduction opportunities and implement design enhancements without compromising performance and quality.
- Participate in engineering design reviews, manufacturing reviews, and design for manufacturing sessions, refining and finalizing designs accordingly.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including qualification and acceptance test procedures, reports, and maintenance manuals.
- Engage with vendors regarding supplied or proposed components, ensuring alignment with design intent and quality standards.
- Support the creation and release of detailed manufacturing documentation for the shop floor.
- Collaborate frequently with internal groups including sales, administration, manufacturing, and assembly to ensure project success.
- Act as the primary point of contact for manufacturing issues, including tolerances, deviations, and design changes for improved manufacturability.
- Proactively recommend process and design improvements across departments to strengthen product performance and efficiency.
- Consistently perform responsibilities in alignment with SRS's safety programs and standards.
Qualifications for a Design Engineer
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required. Associate degree and relevant experience may be substituted.
- 1-3+ years of experience in a Design/Mechanical Engineering role.
- Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks required. AutoCAD knowledge preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office Products including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Organizational abilities, both in physical and electronic workspace.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to multi-task and effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate within a team as well as work independently.
- A high degree of mechanical aptitude.
