Radiation Therapist – Outpatient Cancer Center - $4000 Retention Bonus

Position Summary

Join the radiation oncology team at Urology Clinics of North Texas and help provide precise, compassionate treatment in an outpatient environment where therapists can build meaningful relationships with their patients.

This position offers a predictable weekday schedule with no regularly scheduled weekends, participation in on-call coverage, competitive compensation of $40–$60 per hour, and eligibility for a $4,000 retention bonus. You will work with advanced radiation oncology technology, including Varian TrueBeam, ARIA, Eclipse, CT simulation and image-guided radiation therapy.

Position Responsibilities

The Radiation Therapist provides safe, accurate and compassionate radiation therapy services in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription and approved treatment plan and under the general supervision of the Medical Physicist.

This position is responsible for maintaining clinical and technical competency, accurate treatment documentation, compliance with department procedures and a consistently high standard of patient-centered care.

Patient Treatment and Clinical Care

Deliver prescribed courses of radiation therapy accurately and with minimal supervision, following approved treatment plans, physician prescriptions and department protocols.

Confirm patient identity, diagnosis, treatment site, prescription, calculations and required approvals before beginning treatment.

Prepare treatment rooms and equipment according to physician and treatment-planning instructions, including immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, positioning and accessories.

Transfer and position patients safely on the treatment couch, providing appropriate assistance to patients using stretchers, wheelchairs, intravenous therapy or other supportive devices.

Verify proper radiation-dose delivery and record treatments accurately each day.

Acquire and review treatment images according to department standards and escalate discrepancies before proceeding.

Maintain visual and auditory contact with patients during treatment and respond appropriately to clinical concerns or emergencies.

Observe patients for unusual reactions or changes in condition and promptly communicate concerns to nursing, the Radiation Oncologist or other appropriate clinical staff.

Explain procedures clearly, reinforce education regarding side effects and general care, and confirm patient understanding.

Provide compassionate support to patients and families throughout the course of treatment.

Simulation, Documentation and Workflow

Perform CT simulation and clinical setup activities within the Radiation Therapist’s scope of practice.

Document simulation and treatment parameters accurately in ARIA or the designated oncology information system.

Maintain complete treatment charts, patient markings, approvals and supporting documentation.

Assist with patient scheduling and coordinate treatment appointments to support timely care.

Perform assigned weekly chart checks to verify treatment documentation, billing accuracy and appropriate CPT capture.

Maintain clean, safe and organized treatment, simulation, console and patient-changing areas.

Communicate effectively with physicians, medical physics, nursing, scheduling and other clinical team members to support continuity of care.

Equipment, Quality and Radiation Safety

Perform required equipment warm-up, daily output checks and assigned daily or weekly quality-assurance activities for treatment and simulation equipment.

Immediately report equipment malfunctions, service needs, treatment discrepancies and safety concerns to the Chief Radiation Therapist, Medical Physicist or appropriate leader.

Coordinate equipment access with engineers or vendor representatives as directed and document service-related issues appropriately.

Handle treatment and simulation equipment carefully and support preventive-maintenance, repair and safety processes.

Maintain radiation exposure within applicable limits and follow ALARA principles, department safety procedures and state reporting requirements.

Review and sign required radiation-safety documentation.

Participate in required safety drills, audits, investigations and corrective actions.

Compliance and Professional Responsibilities

Follow UCNT and applicable CCNT policies, behavioral expectations, customer-service standards, HIPAA requirements, infection-control practices and all applicable laws and regulations.

Maintain all required licenses, registrations, certifications and continuing-education requirements.

Demonstrate professionalism, respect, adaptability, accountability and effective communication with patients, families, physicians and coworkers.

Participate in on-call coverage as assigned.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Radiation Oncologist, Medical Physicist, Chief Radiation Therapist or organizational leadership.

Qualifications

This is an onsite position in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Candidates must be able to work onsite at the assigned location by their start date.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited Radiation Therapy degree or certificate program

Current ARRT registration in Radiation Therapy

Current Texas Medical Radiologic Technologist licensure or other license required to practice in Texas

Current Basic Life Support certification

Ability to operate radiation therapy and simulation equipment safely

Ability to participate in the position’s required on-call schedule

Commitment to clinical accuracy, compassionate care, patient safety and teamwork

Preferred Experience

Experience with Varian TrueBeam, ARIA, Eclipse, CT simulation or image-guided radiation therapy

At least one year of recent radiation oncology experience

Experience working in an outpatient radiation oncology environment
