Production Supervisor
Position Overview
The Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising day-to-day manufacturing operations to meet production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements. This role leads and develops the production team, optimizes processes through continuous improvement methodologies, and collaborates with maintenance, quality, and planning to ensure on-time delivery and efficient use of resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of production staff to achieve daily and weekly production plans while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Monitor production KPIs (output, yield, downtime, scrap) and implement corrective actions to meet targets.
- Lead and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles, Six Sigma tools, and 5S workplace organization to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Plan and manage shift schedules, labor allocation, and resource utilization to optimize throughput and control costs.
- Coach, train, and develop team members; conduct performance reviews, safety briefings, and skills training to build a high-performing workforce.
- Perform root cause analysis on process issues and drive cross-functional corrective actions with Quality and Maintenance teams.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, regulatory requirements, and quality systems (e.g., ISO); maintain accurate production documentation and reports.
- Coordinate maintenance and downtime planning with maintenance teams to minimize disruptions and support preventive maintenance activities.
- Support new product introductions and process changes by validating procedures, training staff, and monitoring initial production runs.
- Communicate production status, trends, and improvement opportunities to operations management and participate in planning and continuous improvement meetings.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment, or demonstrated progression in operations roles.
- Hands-on experience with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies (Green Belt preferred) and 5S implementation; demonstrated success leading continuous improvement projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, DMAIC) and corrective action implementation.
- Familiarity with production planning systems (ERP/MRP), production scheduling, and basic production costing.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations and quality systems (e.g., OSHA, ISO); commitment to enforcing safe work practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with ability to coach and motivate teams across shifts.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, adapt to changing priorities, and support shift work as required.
